"Fish culinary is now developing greatly. This proves that the fishery products are accepted by the public. It also means that it can encourage an increased production of fish processing”. Director General of Fisheries Product Processing and Marketing (P2HP) Ministry of Marine and Fisheries, Dr. Victor Nikijuluw expressed this at the National Seminar and Annual Scientific Meeting-3 of the Indonesian Society for Fishery Product Processing (MPHPI) 2011, Thursday (6 / 10) on the Campus of Management and Business (MB) IPB on Pajajaran Street, Bogor.

The Director General, who is also a lecturer of the Graduate School PB, said that the science and knowledge currently developing in Indonesian fisheries is still directed to raw products; and fishery cultivation is still lacking.

On the other hand, according to him, fish-based food industry in many countries uses fish of cultivated species, like salmon and prawns. Therefore, in the future the orientation to the technology, resources, and knowledge related to fish farming need to be promoted.

Earlier, Chairman of MPHPI Prof. Dr. Hari Eko Irianto, invited all parties to further establish themselves in working together to build the processing industry of fish that can change the image of Indonesia, changing from exporting raw materials to exporting value-added products or processed products.

It was this idea that underlies the holding of the annual scientific meeting with the opening officially made Vice Rector for Research and Cooperation IPB Prof. Dr. Anas Fauzi Miftah. It is expected to produce ideas concerning the solutions to the problems in the processing of fishery products, particularly those that can contribute to the diversified products, improved quality and product safety, increased competitiveness and market access, as well as increased fish consumption of communities of Indonesia.

"In addition, the innovations resulting from research results presented in this event are expected to help increase the exports of fishery products targeted to reach five billion dollars in 2014," said Prof. Hari.

The two-day event is attended by representatives from research institutions, universities, practitioners, and regulators from the regions of Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara, Maluku and Papua. There are a total of 104 papers and posters, more than 90 percent of which were delivered orally (Mtd)
