Bogor Agricultural University Held Talent-based Admission Test (UTM) in Five Areas
Good news for students who are interested in pursuing their study at Bogor Agricultural University. In addition to National Selection for State-owned University (SNMPTN), the University is now offering its own system of admission test, the Talent-based Admission Test (UTM) IPB. If previously such kind of test was only held in Bogor, Medan and Surabaya, this year the University decided to add other test locations, namely in Banda Aceh and Makassar.
"The venues of the test will be at IPB Campus Darmaga, SMAN 2 Surabaya, PTPN 3 Medan, SMAN 4 Banda Aceh, and SMAN 17 Makassar. The online application is opened from 6 – 24 June 2011 at 18:00 pm, and the test will be held on the 2 July 2011 and the the result will be announced on 16 July 2011, "said Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr.Ir. Yonny Koesmaryono in the socializatrion of UTM IPB in Andi Hakim Nasoetion Building, 17 June 2011.
Prof. Yonny added the objectives of having Talent-based Admission Test are to get prospective students who have leadership and entrepreneurial to promote agriculture talents to undergo severe discipline and training in preparation for scholars of integrity to be future leaders. In addition, such test is to enable prospective students to expand their access to the higher learning education to be human resources that capable of handling national food security. With regard to the test schedule, Prof. Yonny explained that it is solely due to the technical difficulties. In accordance to the Permendikan No. 34 of the year 2010 that the admission testr of independent systems for state universities should only be held after the implementation SNMPTN.
"We have technical constraints if we have to implement the UTM after 2 July 2011. The incoming students will start their classes early August, thus, all admission processes should be completed in July. In addition, if we close the application process on 30 June 2011, we afraid that there will be a sudden increase on June 30. Last year experience, with only 1500 (one thousand five hundred) applicants, we had difficulties setting the venues, therefore, the prospective students should sacrifice themselves, "he explained.
The subjects for the talented test consisted of Mathematics, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and English. In addition, because the objectives of the test is looking for prospective students who have leadership and entrepreneurial talents, additional talent mapping test will also be given.
"Talent mapping test is a psychological test, but it is rather to explore the student talents. Each student will be diagnosed for their respective talents. This is the specialty of the UTM for the University purposes, "he added. 322 (three hundred twenty two) slots for students have been set through this special admission system. However, last year the University decided to admit 300 (three hundred) students, but in reality it admitted 380 (three hundred eighty ) students.
As there were great applicants, and a number of invitees for the Special Invitation System (USMI) postponed their invitation, so the quota of acceptance for such system this year will be increased. At the registration, a total of 150 (hundred fifty) applicants accepted through the SNMPTN Invitation System had postponed. Thus, it is elastic quota, "he added. (Wied).
