Every scientist agrees that thought (mind) can affect the body function and chemical balance which can in turn affect human health. "A disturbed mind or negative thought will cause imbalance in the body or so-called disease," said the former Professor of Food Science, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Prof. FG Winarno in the event of the 1st Indonesian Food Quiz Bowl Competition, 2011 and National Seminar on ‘Looking at Future of Indonesia Food Industry’, Saturday (21/5) on Darmaga Campus of IPB.

The human mind is also closely related to the release of the enzyme telomerase. It is the enzyme that functions to protect telomeres and reduce DNA damage that is believed to contribute to the aging process. The higher amount of the enzyme telomerase means a delayed aging process and the body remain to look young. "The amount of telomerase is reduced when we are angry, jealous, broken heart and feeling hurt. It increases when we’re happy, laughing, falling in love, is winning a contest, after meditation, retreats, in contemplation and relaxation", explained Prof. Winarno.

On that occasion, Prof. Winarno called on students to learn the science of nano technology in order not to miss it. It has been applied by 10 percent in food and beverage industry. The major application is the cosmetics industry, i.e., 60 percent. "Nanotechnology has entered the food chain and called Bionanotechnology (BioNT)," added the Rector of the University of Atma Jaya.

Another speaker, Chairman of the Indonesia Association of Food and Beverage (GAPMMI), Adhi S. Lukman said the investment in food and beverage industry in Indonesia in 2010 was in the 2nd largest position. The growth value of Indonesian food industry currently reaches 10-11 percent. "Investment opportunities in food and beverage industry in Indonesia is very promising; unfortunately most of the raw materials are imported", said Adhi. He says that the imported raw materials include wheat flour, salt, soy, milk, corn and so forth.

Similar view was also delivered by Editor in Chief of Food Review, Suseno Hadi Purnomo. Almost all industrial raw materials are imported. According to him, interestingly it is found that nearly 80 percent of the contents of the shopping cart of Indonesian community are not in the shopping list, the protein consumption of Indonesia is the lowest in ASEAN, and the three main sources of protein and carbohydrate are still imported. "All these happen not because Indonesia was not able to produce, but because of the effects of global warming that lead to crop failure, in addition to the free trade agreements that allow food commodities to come into and go freely out of a country and the production process that can be anywhere," Seno said.
