IPB University’s Science Techno Park Explores Collaboration with Three Startups Incubated by Hong Kong Cyberport
The Business Incubator Team of the Science Techno Park (STP) at IPB University, through the Promoting Research and Innovation through Modern and Efficient Science and Techno Park (PRIME STeP) program, conducted a benchmarking visit to Hong Kong and Shenzhen, China (9/15-17). The visit opened opportunities for collaboration through the signing of Letters of Intent (LoIs) with three startups incubated by Hong Kong Cyberport.
The LoI were signed between STP IPB University and Ambit Geospatial Solution, Softhard.io, and Farm66 Investment Limited. The collaboration focuses on information exchange and exploring potential areas of cooperation through knowledge sharing, best practices, technology development, business matching, market access, and collaboration between Cyberport incubated startups and startups incubated by STP IPB University, according to their respective business fields.
Potential Startup Synergies
Deva Primadia Almada, SPi, MSi, Assistant for Business Incubation at the Institute for Agromaritime Development and Innopreneurship Acceleration (LPA2I), IPB University, highlighted the potential synergies between IPB University and Cyberport, particularly in leveraging technology to support product development, investment, and expanded market access.
“One of the Cyberport startups introduced during the visit, Farm66, focuses on precision agriculture technology, which is relevant to IPB University’s academic expertise and innovation ecosystem and has strong potential for collaboration with IPB startups,” Deva said.
During the visit, Cyberport introduced its innovation ecosystem and startup development programs covering areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), precision organic agriculture, big data, fintech, smart cities, and digital technology.
Henry Li, Director of Industry Partnerships at Cyberport, emphasized the importance of an ecosystem in supporting startup growth through access to mentors, investors, corporations, technology, and international market networks. Cyberport also offers incubation programs for businesses at various stages of development and invited startups from IPB University to apply and undergo the selection process for its 18 month incubation program.
Expanding Global Networks
The visit provided an opportunity for STP to introduce IPB University, its incubation programs, innovations, and IPB incubated startups. The event was also attended by Bertylani Saulinggi, a representative of the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Hong Kong.
In addition to Cyberport, the STP IPB University team visited Ambit Geospatial Solution, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Joyton, DJI Drone, Xiaomi, and the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Hong Kong.
The initiative is expected to expand IPB University’s global network and create new opportunities for its incubated startups to gain access to technology, strategic partners, investors, and international markets, while strengthening IPB University’s role in developing a technology-based innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
