These Are IPB University’s Five Priority Pillars for Advancing Global Engagement

IPB University Rector Dr Alim Setiawan reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to strengthening institutional transformation through the spirit of IPB-MIRAI.

“IPB-MIRAI is a concept that symbolizes IPB University’s steps toward a future of higher education that is more advanced, high-quality, and globally competitive,” said Dr Alim during the online Wednesday Together event (8/5).

According to him, MIRAI not only means “future” but also reflects the five core values that form the foundation of IPB University’s development, namely Quality, Inclusivity, Relevance, Adaptability, and Impact. These five pillars serve as a guide for the entire academic community in carrying out their roles and responsibilities.

“Quality is the primary foundation for IPB University to maintain its position as a leading institution of higher education while strengthening its path toward becoming a world class university. Meanwhile, the value of inclusivity fosters interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing society’s increasingly complex challenges,” said Dr Alim.

He added that the value of adaptability is realized through IPB’s readiness to face the era of artificial intelligence (AI) by strengthening various future skills. The value of impactfulness, meanwhile, emphasizes that every innovation and academic activity must be able to provide tangible benefits to society and industry, as well as support the resolution of various global challenges.

To support these goals, IPB University has formulated its Global Engagement 2026 policy focus, which encompasses five pillars, which are education and student affairs; resources and infrastructure; research, innovation, and community service; global collaboration and connectivity; and governance and organization.

The area of education and student affairs includes the transformation of faculties and graduate programs, shortening the duration of study for students, developing a deep learning ecosystem, digitizing learning content, expanding international classes, increasing student subsidies, and aiming to once again win the overall championship at the National Student Scientific Week (Pimnas).

In the past semester, three faculties underwent structural changes to optimize performance, which are the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, the Faculty of Medicine and Nutrition, and the Faculty of Social and Human Ecology.

In the field of research, the Rector stated that internal research funding has been doubled. As of June 2026, total research funding has reached Rp138,7 billion. In addition, IPB University has launched a new policy to strengthen graduate student research by providing research grants totaling Rp3 billion for 75 selected proposals.

Regarding academic rankings, IPB University currently ranks 42nd globally in the field of Interdisciplinary Science and 62nd in the THE Impact Rankings.

The Rector hopes that the spirit of transformation through IPB-MIRAI will drive improvements in the collective performance of the entire academic community so that IPB University can break into the ranks of the world’s top 200 universities in the future. (dh) (IAAS/WSG)
