IPB University Accelerates the Digital Learning Ecosystem Through Strategic Collaboration with the ICE Institute
In an effort to accelerate the transformation of higher education in the digital age, IPB University is strengthening its strategic collaboration with the Indonesia Cyber Education (ICE) Institute.
This partnership reflects both institutions’ commitment to building a digital learning ecosystem that is more inclusive, adaptive, and capable of expanding access to education across universities.
IPB University Rector Dr Alim Setiawan noted that the partnership with the ICE Institute, which began in 2021, has had a tangible impact on expanding access to education.
According to him, this success is reflected not only in the number of courses and participants but also in the emergence of an increasingly open, cross-university learning ecosystem.
“Through the ICE Institute, more than 4.000 students from various campuses have studied at IPB University, while thousands of IPB University students have had the opportunity to expand their knowledge beyond campus. This is proof that the concept of a ‘borderless campus’ has become a reality,” he said during a talk show and the ICE Institute’s fifth anniversary celebration at the Startup Center Building in Bogor on (7/28).
In addition, collaboration within the ICE Institute consortium also drives the development of academic policies, ranging from the standardization of learning outcomes to the development of a micro-credential framework that is expected to be recognized nationally.
Furthermore, Dr Alim believes that advancements in internet technology and artificial intelligence have transformed the way universities deliver education. Therefore, in his view, digital transformation goes beyond simply moving course materials to an online platform.
“Digital learning must be designed from the outset for a digital environment, with clear learning objectives and accessibility for various types of learners. The goal is not to replace face to face classes, but to enrich the learning experience through a combination of digital learning, in-person meetings, and fieldwork,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the Director of ICE Institute, Dra Rahayu Dwi Riyanti, MA, revealed that over the past five years, ICE Institute has grown to become the largest online learning marketplace in Indonesia. Currently, ICE Institute collaborates with more than 50 partners from higher education institutions, industry, and the government.
He explained that the ICE Institute has developed approximately 1.800 courses, including more than 500 courses in Indonesian, and offers approximately 16.000 international courses through collaborations with various global learning platforms.
To date, the platform has reached more than 52.000 users in Indonesia and more than 5.000 international users.
“This achievement was only possible thanks to the trust and collaboration of all our partners. We also aim to continue creating a greater impact through innovation, collaboration, and lifelong learning,” he said.
Meanwhile, IPB University’s Vice Rector for Education and Student Affairs, Prof Deni Noviana, stated that IPB University is strongly committed to supporting the transformation of higher education through digital learning.
This commitment has been evident since the inception of the ICE Institute, where IPB University served as one of the founding institutions and has continued to play an active role in its development.
“From the very beginning, IPB University has been committed to being part of the establishment of the ICE Institute. We have also implemented a flexible learning policy by giving students the opportunity to take up to 20 Semester Credit Units (SKS) outside their degree programs. Many students have taken advantage of this policy to enhance their competencies according to their needs and interests,” he said.
The Director of Educational Transformation and Learning Technology (DTPTP) at IPB University, Prof Yulin Lestari, explained that IPB University’s participation in the ICE Institute’s digital learning ecosystem continues to show positive progress.
“Currently, we are offering 10 courses through the ICE Institute marketplace, and more than 6.000 IPB University students have accessed the various available courses. The number of courses offered in the future will continue to grow in line with the development of digital learning at IPB University,” said Prof Yulin. (dr) (IAAS/LAN)
