The Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) at IPB University, in collaboration with Sinarmas Sekuritas, successfully hosted the Capital Market School event. The event, held online on Wednesday (3/11), served not only as an educational platform but also marked a significant milestone with the launch of the IPB Investment Club.

The IPB Investment Club serves as a strategic platform for faculty members and staff at IPB University to learn and practice independent investing in the capital market in a safe and measured manner.

Optimizing the Investment Gallery
In his opening remarks, the Dean of FEM IPB University, Prof Irfan Syauqi Beik, expressed appreciation for the achievements of the FEM Investment Gallery, which has long received recognition from various parties. He emphasized that state of the art physical facilities must be accompanied by inclusive activities for the entire academic community.

“We hope that this already excellent Investment Gallery facility can be filled with a variety of investment related activities for the entire IPB University community. The establishment of the IPB Investment Club is expected to serve as a driving force in optimizing the use of these facilities,” said Prof Irfan.

Beware of Illegal Investments
The first session was led by Hendra Pamungkas from the Market Development Division of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI). Hendra issued a stern warning regarding the rise of illegal investment schemes that are now targeting people from all walks of life, regardless of their educational background.

“Anyone can fall victim to fraudulent investments. Therefore, continuous education is key. Never stop learning,” Hendra emphasized. Additionally, he thoroughly explained the fundamental differences between conventional capital markets and Sharia compliant capital markets, providing participants with insights to help them choose investment instruments aligned with their religious principles.

Understanding Risk Profiles and Economic Strategies
Continuing the second session, Ike Widiawati, Chair of Retail Research at Sinarmas Sekuritas, presented various investment instruments in the capital market along with their unique characteristics. Ike emphasized that there is no “one size fits all” instrument.

“It is crucial for every investor to understand their own risk profile before entering the market. By understanding one’s risk tolerance limits, we can select the instruments that best align with our financial goals,” explained Ike. She also shared practical strategies on how to manage an investment portfolio to remain resilient amid fluctuating economic conditions.

Participants’ Enthusiasm
Although held online, the participants’ enthusiasm did not wane. Attended by more than a hundred participants, the discussion was very dynamic. The numerous critical questions raised by faculty members and academic staff demonstrate the academic community’s strong interest in exploring capital market mechanisms as an alternative for future financial management.

With the establishment of the IPB Investment Club, it is hoped that it will become a pioneer in strengthening financial literacy within the university community, while also creating a healthy and educational investment ecosystem. (*/Rz) (IAAS/DAM)
