IPB University’s commitment to delivering innovations that provide tangible benefits to society has once again been recognized at the national level by winning the Grand Prize in the 2025 Student Impact Program organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek). Held at Ahmad Dahlan University in Yogyakarta, this event served as a platform to recognize students and universities capable of delivering innovative, practical, and impactful programs for the community.

At the event, IPB University achieved success in five categories simultaneously: 2nd Place for Best Poster, 1st Place for Best Video, 2nd Place for Best Technological Innovation, 1st Place for Inspirational Faculty Member, and the 2025 Overall Champion for Impactful Student Programs. These achievements demonstrate that the programs implemented are not only outstanding in terms of ideas and innovation but also strong in public communication, event documentation, technology application, and the role of faculty mentors in mobilizing students and the community.

Rector Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet stated that these achievements reaffirm IPB University’s commitment to developing higher education that is not only focused on academic excellence but also on social contribution, technological innovation, and community empowerment.

“This success proves that collaboration between students, faculty, and the community can produce work that addresses real world needs,” he said.

A team from IPB University carried out community empowerment activities in Sangrawayang Village, Simpenan Subdistrict, Sukabumi Regency, West Java, through a program titled “Implementation of Squid Attractor Innovations and Zero Waste Products in Sangrawayang Village to Realize a Business Ecosystem Toward a Blue Economy.”

Team Leader Muh Faturokhman, SPt, MSi, explained that this program was designed to address the challenges faced by coastal communities through the application of fisheries technology innovations, human resource capacity building, and the development of businesses based on local potential. Fishermen and members of the Sangrawayang Village Youth Organization played an active role in the program’s implementation in the field.

“Through the use of squid attractors, this program is expected to help fishermen increase their catch productivity in a more targeted, efficient, and sustainable manner,” said Fatur, who also serves as Assistant Director for Character Development, Student Organizations, Sports, and Arts at IPB University.

In addition, he continued, the development of zero-waste products based on squid is a strategic step to create economic added value, reduce fishery waste, and open up new business opportunities for the village community, especially the younger generation.

In addition to Fatur, the program was also supported by Prof Mulyono and Dr Roza Yusfiandayani, who played key roles in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the empowerment activities.

For IPB University, this success demonstrates that higher education can serve as a vehicle for generating innovations that have a direct impact on the community. “The squid attractor innovation and squid processing are expected to improve the economy of fishermen, strengthen the self reliance of coastal communities, and drive the coastal community’s business ecosystem toward a blue economy,” he concluded.
