IPB University Holds SUIJI-SLP Programme Again

IPB University through the Directorate of Agromaritime Community Development in collaboration with the Directorate of International Education again held the Six University Initiative Japan Indonesia – Service Learning Program (SUIJI-SLP) 2024. SUIJI-SLP is a consortium programme between six universities in Japan and Indonesia. The universities include Ehime University, Kagawa University, Kochi University, IPB University, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), and Hasanuddin University.

SUIJI participants have the opportunity to learn with the community in order to enrich experience, culture, responsibility, and develop skills. Especially in strengthening and developing the potential of local resources owned by the community. In line with that, the SUIJI-SLP 2024 Programme carries the theme of Sustainable Agromaritime Community Development towards Social Resilience through Student Contributions.

Director of Agromaritime Community Development of IPB University, Dr Handian Purwawangsa fully supports SUIJI activities and thanks the partners who have collaborated and received students at the location of SUIJI activities. “There are three locations that become partners of the SUIJI-SLP 2024 Programme, namely P4S Okiagaru in Ciputri Village, Pacet District, Koharu Hikari Nusantara in Cibeureum Village, Cugenang District, and Tani Mandiri in Ciputri Village, Pacet District, Cianjur Regency. During SUIJI activities, students will be accompanied by two lecturers from Ehime and Kagawa University,” he said.

In 2024, there were 24 IPB University students involved in the SUIJI-SLP programme. The students come from the Faculties of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Science, Animal Science, Forestry, Agricultural Technology, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Management Economics, Human Ecology, Business School and Vocational School. Meanwhile, students from Japan consisted of eight students from Ehime University, Kagawa University, and Kochi University.

Shingo Akaike Sensei, a lecturer from Kochi University, said that the eight Japanese students will learn with the community. He hopes that the community can introduce the culture and customs of the local community.

The SUIJI-SLP programme also received support from the Food Crops, Horticulture, Plantation and Food Security Office of Cianjur Regency. “We accept and appreciate DPMA IPB University for involving the community in Cianjur Regency to participate as the location of SUIJI 2024 activities. We hope that with this activity, the community and students can learn from each other, especially in terms of agricultural culture exchange, because the majority of people work as farmers,” said Nurdiyati, Chief of the Food Crops, Horticulture, Plantation and Food Security Office of Cianjur Regency.
