IPB University Students Campaign Cool Life without Plastic
Human activity is inseparable from the use of plastic. Plastic takes a long time to decompose, causing pollution problems. One solution to overcome the problem of plastic is to reduce the use of plastic, especially plastic bottles.
For this reason, the Industrial Technology Student Association (Himalogin) IPB University carried out a socialization on reducing the use of plastic bottles through social projects with the theme “Cool without Plastic”. This Social Project is part of the Festival of Agroindustry, an activity that introduces the development of agro-industry in Indonesia. The Agroindustry Festival consists of social project activities, business canvass model competitions, infographic essays, national seminars, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) exhibitions and food festivals.
Cool without plastic, managed to collect 10,000 plastic bottles. The collection of plastic bottles was carried out in the Sapta Dharma Canteen, Dramaga Campus of IPB and Taman Sempur, Bogor.
The series of activities began on August 23, 2019 to September 15, 2019. The social project was also attended by the 2019 Bogor Jajaka Jajaka.
“This plastic bottle occupies the second largest position of garbage in the world. Bogor has implemented the ‘Bogor Without Plastic Bags’ program. One solution to reduce plastic bottles is the use of tumblers. But the socialization is still felt lacking. We will send the collected plastic bottles to the Bogor City Government Environment Agency and will be given to the garbage bank. Then the garbage bank will recycle the bottles and make crafts, “explained the Head of the Festival of Agroindustry, Ardani Lukman at the Dramaga Campus of IPB.
Ardani explained that the challenge in campaigning for a life without plastic is that there has not yet arisen awareness from students and the public. They are not yet aware of the dangers of using plastic bottles continuously.
“With this movement, I hope the community can reduce the use of plastic, especially on the IPB University Campus. This Social Project also invites the public to participate by following the video campaign. Video content can be in the form of solicitation or unique ways to reduce plastic, “he added.
