Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) of Republic of Indonesia again held a regular discussion agenda called Rabuan (10/1). This Rabuan activity was facilitated by Pojok Iklim /  Climate Corner (Proklim) with the discussion of "Upaya Kesatuan Pengelola Hutan Lindung (KPHL) Batutegi dalam Mitigasi dan Adaptasi Perubahan Iklim / Efforts of Protected Forest Management Unit (KPHL) Batutegi in the Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation". Three students of Faculty of Human Ecology (Fema), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), namely Muhamad Febri Ramdani, Vika Afrigusti, and Risa Maulegi, had the opportunity to provide the critical views in this activity.

Chairman of KPHL Batutegi, Yayan Ruchyasyah, talked about the perspective of the Social Forestry Policy that made the forests beneficial in the economy to the surrounding communities and sustained their forest functions. Yayan also described his achievements in the success of the social forestry program, including the farmers could produce the forest coffee, the forest honey, the forest hazelnut,  the forest waterfall ecotourism, and so on. At the discussion session, the students of IPB participated in the argument, questioned and gave the solute view of what was being discussed.

Muhamad Febri Ramdani conveyed the hope that KPHL would lead the community to the Eco-Populist paradigm in the forest management in order to create the harmony between the community and the nature, and in the face of the climate change. He also criticized the lack of branding of the products produced by KPHL Batutegi, so that the “forest coffee” product was not well known in the national and international markets.

Meanwhile, Vika Afrigusti highlighted the issue of the climate change. She questioned the real activities and solutions of KPHL Batutegi in response to the deforestation caused by the forest fires occurring in the Batutegi Protected Forest area and responding to the challenge of the climate change. Vika also suggested that the community was given the knowledge about the climate change in order to be able to do the mitigation and adaptation in collaboration with KPHL Batutegi.

Yayan Ruchyasyah well appreciated the inputs and criticisms, as well as responded with straightforward questions submitted by the students. He also expressed the need for support from the students in realizing the good mitigation and adaptation in the face of the climate change, one of them was through the critical thoughts of the students. (RA/nm)
