IPB’s Alumni Must Have Five Values

News
Wherever IPB’s (Bogor Agricultural University) Alumni hold their career, they should have five values. "In order to compete in the job world of work, they must have five excellent values," said IPB’s Vice Rector for Research and Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Ir. Anas Miftah Fauzi in Stadium General or General Lecture in the Pre Graduation ceremony, Tuesday (20/8) in the Auditorium of Thoyyib Hadiwijaya, Darmaga Campus of IPB.

The five values include firstly responsibility, we should we have to be responsible for an idea that we have put forward. Next is integrity, including honesty. We must be honest wherever we are. The third is respect to others (sympathy, empathy, being respect for others, including peers, superiors and subordinates). The fourth is excellence. To excel we need to constantly improve skills. The fifth is being inclusive. Contrary to being exclusive, being inclusive means how we invite others to make our progress.

Prof. Anas said that in 2015 Indonesia will face the challenges of the implemented Asian Free Trade, in which there is a free flow of low labor (workers). "If we do not have high competitiveness, it is possible that diploma graduate from Asian countries will flood the job market in Indonesia. There is also in it a free flow of low capital which can be a threat to the individual entrepreneur in the field of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). If we are not creative and innovative, local SMEs will be replaced by other Asian SMEs, "said Prof. Anas.

According to him, so far Indonesia has experienced a middle trap country, i.e. it can not directly jump into a developed country because of various constraints, in contrast to South Korea, a country with many SMEs, which can directly jump to become a developed country because of its innovations and creativity. "To be like South Korea, we have to be creative and innovative in the field of management and product development. In addition, we have to have superior and adaptive performance."

Deputy Director of IPB Diploma Program, Dr. Ir. Suwarno, MS in his speech expressed the importance of conducting Stadium General of Pre Graduation. "Without really realizing, you have spent three years studying at IPB Diploma Programs, and have acquired various sciences. You are also given the knowledge of entrepreneurship. After graduation, life is not too easy. In the past when you were still in the status of students, you were well accepted in some companies, but after graduation, the companies say there are no vacancies," said Dr. Suwarno.

Further he said, during the economic crisis, the employment that is still open is the field of agribusiness. "I hope you guys will open up your own businesses in that field. This is in line with the vision and mission of IPB, i.e. IPB graduate have the characters of leadership and entrepreneurial spirit. The advantage of being an entrepreneur is that while you get income for yourselves, you can also generate employment for others. We, the Diploma Program Directorate and DPKHA of IPB, are not convinced yet with the knowledge that you have acquired, so today we are conducting a stadium general as preparation after you graduate," he said.

A similar view was conveyed by the Director of Career Development and Alumni Relations (IPB-DPKHA), Dr. Ir. Syarifah Iis Aisyah. Stadium General is held as a form of responsibility and concern of IPB to new graduates. "We want to provide preparation for you brothers and sisters and facilitate to find new jobs," she said. The stadium general also presented speakers such as Fathan Kamil, Director of PT.Transamudra Usaha Sejahtera, M.Wildan (a student running a business), and motivator, Aris Ahmad Jaya of AbCo Suggesti Motivando.
