COMMERCIAL PESTICIDE FORMULATION HAS INCREASED 1400%…!
At the time when we attained self-sufficiency in rice in 1984, the number of commercial formulations of pesticides was only 200’s brand. Currently, there are 2877 registered brand formulation, it is an increase of 14 times ", as expressed by Ir. Erma Budiyarto, MS, the Director of Crop Protection, Ministry of Agriculture. It is a challenge for us to disseminate IPM information to farmers, since they need sincere guidance in the era of the complex agricultural pests problems as a result of global climate change, as well as the increase of importation of product / seed plants . "Though they have been screened tightly for licensing," added Prof. Dr. Ir. Dada, MAgr., IPB pesticide expert who also served as chairman for the Pesticides Technical Commission of the Ministry of Agriculture.
That’s one of recommendations made as the result of a series of national seminar on the National Plant Protection Event (NPV) organized by the Student Association of Plant Protection (HIMASITA), Faculty of Agriculture – IPB. The theme of the seminar was on "Apa Kabar PHT Indonesia " (What’s going on with the IPM) , the seminar was also attended by a number of experts and practitioners of IPM, and speakers of the seminar were, Prof. Dr. Ir. Aunu Rauf, MSc. (Department of Plant Protection IPB), Dr. Ir. Budi Tjahjono, MAgr. (PT Riau Andalan Pulp & Paper), Ir. Undang Kosasih (PTPN 8), Ir. Widyastama Cahyana (FIELD Indonesia Foundation), and Ir. Wahono (Nastari Foundation, Bogor). A number of questions and critical comments were also raised by participants during the seminar, most of them were students from various universities in Indonesia, such as UNPAD,UGM, UNIBRAW, Universitas Tadulako, UNS, UPN Yogyakarta, and UNNAS.
According to the Chairman of the Organizing Committee (OC) of NPV, Kevin Bramantyo and chairman of HIMASITA – IPB, Auzan Baiquni, this series of seminar is an annual program. In addition, prior attending the national seminar, the participants were also invited to participate in the short Training Course on organic agriculture, molecular biology, and preservation of insects. Moreover, they were also invited to the food sovereignty discussion, which was held jointly by KRKP (People’s Coalition for Food Sovereignty), and finally to have the field trip to the ICDF and some areas around the campus. Finally, as part of the program activities, competitions on the insects photography and popular writings on IPM were also organized. Not only demanded by students, such series of program on NPV were also in great demand by both private and government agencies, such as the PT Petrochemical Kayaku and Indonesian Agricultural Quarantine.
