Rector releases Hundreds of “pejuang desa”
Rector of IPB, Prof. Dr. Ir Herry Suhardiyanto, MSc. released 200 students of “pejuang desa” (village fighters) in their Gerakan Mahasiswa Turun Desa (the Student Going Down to Village), on Saturday, 29 September 2012, at the Field in front of the Andi Hakim Nasoetion Building, Dramaga Campus, Bogor. The movement was initiated by the Ministry of Social and Community Welfare BEM KM IPB which is repackaged in an activity with the name IPB Social and Health Care (I-Share) 2012.
Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Ms. Tuti Susanti, expressed that the movement will be conducted on 29-30 September 2012 in five villages around the campus, namely Neglasari, Petir, Purwasari, Sukawening, and Ciaruteun Ilir. "With such activity, it is expected to foster student social sensitivity towards the problems encounter by the community, especially in the villages around the campus. The selection of the locations, as well as the accommodation were based on the core competencies of the participants as evaluated by their departments and their respective Faculties, "expressed Tuti in front of Rector and the participants I-Share 2012.
Meanwhile, in his remarks Rector expressed his appreciation to the students who have initiated activities. According to Rector, such activity was very valuable experiences, because it has improved their awareness of the local community.
"Love your community, let’s make the synergy with them to build self-contented community. The opportunities to stay with them in short time will be a valuable experiences as how to have good communication as well as how to establish the right approach for the community empowerment, "said Rector. Accompanied Rector were the Executive Secretary of IPB, Dr.Ir. Bonny PW Soekarno, Head of Sub Directorate Student Welfare of Directorate Student Affairs, Ms. Megawati Simanjuntak, SP, M.Sc., and President BEM KM IPB, Mr. Muhammad Saefudin. (Wied).
