What does the best PhD graduate of IPB say?
The superiority of IPB in the field of Fisheries and Marine Resources is in no doubt as the oldest university with the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences. This is evident from the many graduates who have excellent achievement in their fields. That’s the main reason why the best graduate of the Doctoral Program in the academic year of 2011/2012 (with GPA of 3.95), Dr. Nicolas William Schaduw Joshian S.IK, M.Si (28 years) to take studies in IPB.
"Since IPB is one of the best universities in Indonesia, I am optimistic that IPB can compete to be the best in Asia. Therefore, after completing my Master studies, I was immediately attracted to take further studies in IPB. Besides the knowledge obtained meeting the requirements of a lecturer, IPB offers a special attraction of the study program of Coastal and Marine Resource Management (SPL). SPL graduates are not only prepared to be excellent lecturers, but also given knowledge applicable directly in the development of Indonesian maritime," he said.
"The intensive supervision system and a high level of accuracy of the supervisors initially made it hard for me in adaptation, but eventually I realized that all that is done is a process toward success. This is proven by the S2 (Master degree) study that I could complete in 20 months with a GPA of 3.80, which is an achievement that can be obtained by hard work and cooperation of all related parties," said he, who was born in Manado and works as a lecturer at the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, University of Sam Ratulangi Manado.
The most memorable during the Doctoral studies in IPB is his involvement in making the blueprint of coastal resources and marine for the Riau Islands province, i.e. an Integrated and Sustainable Management of Marine Tourism. In addition, the open examination that invited North Sulawesi Governor, Dr. Sinyo Harry Sarundajang as external examiner is a breakthrough in the synergy of universities and local governments to collaborate in an integrated and sustainable management of coastal and marine areas, he said proudly.
"Finally, my message to all students who will study and are studying in IPB is to keep working and striving to offer the best, and never give up. Remember that the key to success is hard work and cooperation. Luck will come when preparedness meets with opportunity, do not put off work. My last message, which I quoted from the Late Sumitro Djojohadikusumo is Smile against adversity; take the courage to face danger; be resilient against defeat and humble in victory and success. I hope IPB continues to move forward," he said. (Mtd)
