The Strong Will was Her Capital to reach Her Goals.
The strong will, perhaps was the capital of Apriliani Santi, student of the year of the SMAN 2 Trenggalek, who was admitted to be the current student of the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture Faculty of Agriculture, IPB. When she was interviewed for the Bidikmisi Scholarship in the Common Class Room (CCR), Darmaga Campus, on 2 August 2012, Santi told his life-story when she had to terminate her goal to persue her study last year due to lack of funds.
The excitement of knowing to be admitted to a state university in East Java was not last longer, as soon she she realized that she had to pay the tuition fee amounted to Rp. 12 million. "Accompanied by her mother she even tried to appeal to the academic affairs of the said university to postpone the payment or to get special treatment due to lack of funds. According to the academic affairs, the tuition fee must be paid, at least 50% of it. But it seemed that it was the end of my dream, as for low income family like me even six million Rupiah is quite a large amount of money, "she said.
The good opportunity to pursue my study was lost. Santi then decided to get a job as a shop keeper in her uncle’s shop in Jakarta. "I once felt desperate and gave up, but thanks to the support of my friends and I decided to reach my dreams," she said.
While she had been working in Jakarta, every night Santi always learned the lessons she got when she was at the high school. As the the shop keeper she earned Rp. 400.000,- (four hundred thousand Rupiah) per month. Of her small money she earned, Santi saved Rp. 100.000,- (hundred thousand Rupiah) per month. What was it for? The money she saved for one year was actually used to make her postponed dreams come true.
"I use my saving to apply for admisson to the university through written test system of SNMPTN and to get the supporting documents for the administrative process for Bidikmisi scholarships. I will use the rest of my money for my living costs for a month in Bogor. I took IPB because I love of biology. However, as IPB is one of the favorite universities and the competition to be admitted for this University was so tough, I was pessimist that I would be admitted. But I was surprised to know that I was admitted to be student of IPB. I was so happy. I decided to study hard, and keep on woring toward that goal, "she expressed her happiness in the registration processed as a new student. She got happier when she was informed that her application for Bidikmisi scholarships was accepted. (Wied).
