Talking on Soybean Cake (Tempeh) for the International Seminar at IPB
The composition of bacteria on the Soybean cake (tempeh) will be differ depending on the location where it is being made, as well as the steps and the fermentation process being performed in their making processes. For example, tempeh made in Sidoardjo is reported to contain a lot of Klebsiella bacteria, and they are known to produce vitamin B12. While the noted tempeh made in Malang, it contains a lot of R. Oryzae bacteria, that are known to produce lactic acid and have the ability to break down fats into triglycerides and amino acids. These statements were stated by mycrobiologist of IPB, Prof. Antonius Suwanto, at the International Conference held at IPB International Convention Center, on 17 July 2012.
On this special conference, the first for its kind, IPB was selected to host this special event. IPB in collaboration with Dautcher Academishcer Austausdienst (DAAD) organized this meeting, and the DAAD selected the university Kassel, Germany and The Indonesian-German Network in Teaching, Training and Research Collaboration (TTRC) to implement this conference. According to Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Dr. Diah Ratnadewi, the objectives of this international conference were to provide an overview of development research programs on bioterchnology and moleculair biology in the world, especially in Asia that include Indonesia.
About twenty-five titles of research programs from Germany, Malaysia, Riau, West Sumatra, East Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, East Java, Yogyakarta, West Java, Banten and Jakarta, and as many as 31 (thirty one) posters were presented in such conference. More importantly, in this special conference 5 (five) senior German researchers presented the most current development in bitechnology.
As added by the Initiator of TTRC, who is also the Dean of Faculty of Biology, University of Kassel, Wolfgang Nellan, through this cooperation, it is expected that by 2012 as many as 5 (five) Graduate students from Indonesia will be sent to Kassel, Germany. Similar statement was also stated by the of Dean of the Graduate Studies of IPB at the opening ceremony that the cooperation was expected to provide significant impact on the development of research in the future.
