Cadre of Youth Farmers Were Trained on Agriculture at IPB

In order to speed up the national food security, 3rd Military Command (Kodam) Siliwangi and Provincial Government of West Java, in cooperation with Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) jointly planned to organize the 2012 Cadre of Young Farmer of West Java Training Course. The Training Course for Kader Tani Pemuda (Katimu – Cadre of Youth Farmers) will be held on 2 – 9 July 2012. The Katimu Training Coourse which will be participated by  more than  400 cadres of West will officially be opened by Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. Ir. Suswono, MMA.

Challenges  in present  and future agricultural development are the  lack of  youths’ interest on  the agricultural sector, but actually  the agriculture sector plays the strategic role in the national economic development. "The agricultural sector plays a very strategic role for the development of national economy as it contributes a very real contribution to the national food supply, the supply of industrial raw materials, generate employments, sources of foreign exchanges, increase farmers’ income, and preservation of conservation of the environment ", said Minister of Agriculture in his remarks.  

Dr. Suswono also stated that the future of agricultural sector of Indonesia will depend on us, and the important key for the successful agricultural development is the mastery of science and technology. The cadres of Katimu will be the decision makers. "I hope all of you will learn the science and agricultural technology. Only with science and the innovation in agricultural technology our national agriculture will be able to compete with other countries ", added Minister of Agriculture.

In this regard, for four consecutive years IPB has contributed greatly  for the  most prospective works of the innovations for Indonesia which has been organized by the Ministry of Research and Technology. "There were 406 titles of most prospective works of innovation, 131 titles out of them were from IPB.  Therefore, I encourage that those innovative works  should be disseminated into the community at large through various activities even to remote communties" said IPB Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Herry Suhardiyanto, M.Sc. In his remarks, he stated "Thank God, we have you here this campus, the cadres of Katimu, who represent various parts of West Java. I express my sincere thank to the Commander of 3rd Military Command (Kodam) Siliwangi and all of you, the cadres of Katimu,  at the Darmaga campus, we’ll work hands in hands to develop our agriculture in the broad sense.
