Bogor Agricultural University Established “Center Of Excellence” for Agriculture

Bogor Agriculture University  (IPB) established partnership program with Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, as well as the Putra Sampoerna Foundation to establish Center of Excellence (CoE). The event was marked by the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the IPB  and Cornell University. The signing of the MoU was implemented during the "I4 Festivation" which was held in the Auditorium M. Jusuf Ronodipuro, RRI Jakarta, on 14 July 2012. Concurently, the  signing of the MoU between  IPB, represented by  the Vice Rector for Research and Cooperation IPB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Miftah Anas Fauzi. M, and the Cornell University, represented by  Prof. Eng. Alice N. Pell as Vice Provost for International Relations of Cornell University,  was accompanied by  a series of activites with the theme "Innovation Stage Indonesia ".

The concept  of Center of Excellence is  a center of innovation and education in sustainable agriculture. Center of Excellence will focus on agriculture, natural resource management and other special values to improve rural livelihoods. The Center will contribute for the agricultural innovation, sustainable natural resources, and the development of business and institutional  expertise, which are required  to prevent the stagnation in the development in Indonesia.

The objective for  the establishment of  the Center of Excellence is to improve the livelihood and health of the population of Indonesia with a focus on food safety and nutrition. Food science and nutrition will become  the important aspect of the Center of Excellence, the Center was establsihed to secure food supplies and improve the nutritional status and health of the people of Indonesia. The emphasis on food processing will also stimulate economic development, especially in rural areas. (Wied).
