The Institute of Science and Technology (LKST) at IPB University has organized a Training on Patent Document Specification Preparation for the year 2025. This training is the first phase in the effort to facilitate the preparation of patent documents for 38 innovations from IPB University lecturers that will be registered for patents this year.

The chairperson of LKST IPB University, Prof Erika B Laconi, stated that the process of preparing patent documents is crucial to ensure early protection of the intellectual property (IP) results produced by the lecturers of IPB University.

These innovations are spread across all faculties and schools at IPB University, and it is hoped that they can soon proceed to the document examination stage.

“Our hope is that all 38 documents we have prepared can be registered as initial protection for the intellectual property of IPB University lecturers,” said Prof Erika during the event held at the IPB International Convention Center (IICC), Bogor, (6/12)

After passing the substantive examination and meeting all requirements, it is expected that these patents can be granted. However, Prof Erika emphasized that IPB University’s goals do not stop there.

Once the patents are granted, she hopes for collaboration with industries or other partners to develop these innovations into commercial products. With the patents, IPB University has protected its intellectual property, allowing collaboration with industries to be conducted through licensing schemes.

“IPB University already has regulations regarding royalties. Our target is for IPB University innovations to provide significant benefits to society and address existing needs and problems,” explained Prof Erika.

In addition to benefiting society, this initiative also aims to encourage IPB University innovators to continue creating and conducting research.

“Finally, these patents will become part of the intellectual property of IPB University innovators, providing them with a legacy even after they retire,” she concluded. (IAAS/KMR)
