African Zakat and Waqf Amils Come to IPB University, Learn Governance

IPB University through the Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) and the Center for Islamic Business and Economic Studies (CIBEST) organized a 13-day training on zakat and waqf management for amil. The training participants consisted of delegates from Africa, who came from countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, and Benin.
The program is organized in collaboration with the National Amil Zakat Agency’s Professional Certification Institute (LSP Baznas). The participants will later get an official certificate from LSP BAZNAS as a form of competency recognition.
The acting daily (Plh) Rector of IPB University, Prof Ernan Rustiadi said that this training is a commitment of IPB University in developing science and human resources (HR) in the field of economics and Islamic finance.
The main focus of the training lies on aspects of zakat and waqf which are considered to have a role in economic and social development, both in Indonesia and the Islamic world globally.
“IPB University strives to continue to contribute to the development of innovative and effective zakat and waqf management models,” he said when giving a speech at the FEM Deanery Meeting Room some time ago.
He also emphasized the importance of increasing the capacity of zakat and waqf managers so that this huge potential can be managed professionally for the welfare of the people.
“This training is also designed comprehensively, covering aspects of fiqh, planning, collection, distribution, and evaluation of program impact,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dean of FEM IPB University, Dr Irfan Syauqi Beik expressed his appreciation to the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) which fully supports the implementation of this activity, including financing tickets and accommodation for participants.
“Welcome to IPB University. Hopefully this training will be useful and have a positive impact on the development of zakat and waqf at the global level,” he said.
Director of Zakat and Waqf Empowerment, Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof Waryono appreciated IPB University’s initiative to facilitate the training of amil zakat and waqf on an international scale.
“In fact, IPB University facilitates international amil training, this is extraordinary. And this is also inspiring for all of us who are concerned about advancing the zakat and waqf ecosystem,” he said.
He added that the training participants are expected to not only come from Africa, but also potentially reach the European and American regions. This reflects the reputation of Indonesia, especially IPB University, as a center of excellence in the development of zakat and waqf. (dr) (IAAS/LAN)
