Workshop on Vocational Program

One of the requirements to develop vocational-based education is the establishment of credible educational orindustrial institutions to certify the appropriateness of the graduates will be produced by those vocational educational institutions. This certification is important for them to go into the open world labour market, as well as for the comprehensive and systematic campaign of vocational education as an alternative labour market. 

 

This statement was presented by Human Resources Managing Director of PT. SMART Tbk, Michael Adryanto, as the guest speaker at the National Workshop on Vocational Program, Monday, 28 October 2013, at the Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) International Convention Center (IICC), Bogor, organized bythe Directorate of the Diploma Programmeof IPB. The theme workshop was "MembangunPendidikanTinggiVokasi yang BerdayaSaingdalamMenyongsong AFTA 2014 dan AEC 2015 (Develop a High Vocational Education in Toward a Competitive AFTA 2014 and AEC 2015)". The workshop  was officially opened by the Vice Rector of IPB of Resources and Strategic Studies, Prof. Dr.. Herman Siregar

 

The certification, added Michael, will enable us to select only qualified foreign workers who fits to the Indonesian standards will be employed by our country. Furthermore, it also willprovide opportunities for Indonesian workers to compete with other foreign skilled workers needed by foreign companies or institutions.

 

Further Michael explained that "center of excellence" is also required for  industrial education world, this center should be jointly established by both educational institutionsandprivate companies. Such Center of excellence will involve and should be supported by the government to predict the national demands of labour force in the next 3-10 years; the educational institutions will develop curriculum and competency standards, while the  industrial companies will provide input of the subjects required for the curriculum development. 

 

The Diploma Programme Directorof IPB, Prof. Dr..Zairin Junior, the Director of Bandung StatePolytechnicfor Manufacturing, Prof. Dr.. Isa SetiasyahToha, and the Director of SurakartaATMI Polytechnic, T. AgusSriyono were resource person invited for the national workshop. .(Wied).
