The Center for Educational Quality Assurance, Ministry of Education and Culture, Republic of Indonesia visited Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) on 28-29 October 2013. IPB is considered to have a good quality assurance system. One indicator is that IPB has its institutional accreditation  of category A, the second best in Indonesia. Currently, the Ministry of Education and Culture is developing a national quality standard. "Actually, we already have a national standard that is  based on the standard of National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT). However, this standard is not exactly the same as the national education standard because of different benchmarks. In the preparation process, they want to learn from universities already having a good system," said Head of Quality Management Office of IPB, Dr. Ir. Fredinan Yulianda, M.Sc.

According to Dr. Ir. Fredinan Yulianda, M.Sc., the implementation of IPB’s quality assurance system has been established. "The operating tools have already existed, ranging from quality standards, standard operating procedures to the evaluation mechanism, including the organizational structure of the quality assurance system, which is well structured, starting from IPB’s the level, the Faculties, to the Departments," said Dr. Ir. Fredinan.

At the faculty level, there is a Quality Assurance Division chaired by Vice Dean of the Faculty in charge of Heads of the Departrments. At the department level there is also a quality assurance Division lead by the Department Secretary, and consists of Heads of  the Study Programs and Heads of Divisions. "It is this system that we introduce to the Education Quality Assurance Center", said Dr. Ir. Fredinan.

On this occasion, IPB Vice Rector for Resource and Strategic Studies, Prof. Dr. Ir. Hermanto Siregar, M. Ec described what IPB has done, how IPB has dealt, set up the system and implemented it. He also cited the achievements that have been accomolished through the quality assurance system already implemented by IPB. In these two days, the Center for Education Quality Assurance, Ministry of Education and Culture will conduct interviews on a picking test with the Department of Food Science and Technology and the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, IPB. The positive aspects of this test will be used as the material in the preparation of the national standard of educational quality. (Mtd)
