Aquaculture Department of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) IPB organized the Simposium Bioteknologi Akuakultur IV (Symposium on Biotechnology of Aquaculture IV). Events was held at the IPB International Convention Center, Bogor, on 18 October 2012. "A total of 40 papers on aquaculture biotechnology and its related research were presented in this symposium. those paper were on various titles on fish nutrition-related subjects, fish health and aquaculture production technology, "said Chairman of the steering committee, Dr. Nur Bambang Priyo Utomo.

Further, Dr. Bambang stated that the existing of  aquaculture biotechnology is expected to double the effectiveness of  food production  with measurable targets, capable of creating competitive products, to reduce the production cost and the human intervention on nature for more friendly environment. In addition he stated that  "The most important thing that we have channel to discuss and socialize our research products to be applied in the community," he said. Especially, the symposium invited expert from Ghent University,  Belgium, Prof. Dr. Peter Bossier. During which he presented his paper on Microbes as Possitive Actors for More Sustainable Aquaculture. In his paper he described that microbes have an important role to support sustainable aquaculture activities.

With the invention of such important aspect, the aquatic microbes are expected to contribute positively to support the sustainable aquaculture through environmental improvement, increased efficiency of nutrient utilization, as well as the prevention and control of disease. Finally, as part of the Symposium the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) has discussed the policies for the industrialization of fisheries to support the masterplan of the rapid economic development of Indonesia ". Present in FGD were stakeholders from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, academia and the private sector. (Wied)
