Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Human Ecology (FEMA), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) held its peak program on Indonesian Ecology Expo (INDEX) 2012, at Grha Widya Wisuda (GWW), Dramaga Campus, 14 October 2012. The theme of the INDEX 2012 was on  "Pemberdayaan Masyarakat Pesisir Untuk Mewujudkan Kehidupan yang Berkualitas (Empowering of Coastal Communities to Achieve the Quality of Life0". INDEX is a regular event held every year BY BEM FEMA. This activity aims to socialize the importance of ecology for survival.

A series of programs, consisted of 4 (four) items were planned.  First, Real Action I "Index bakti pendidikan dan kesehatan (Index devotion and health education)", was held on 16 September 2012 at Kamal Muara coast. Second,  Real Action II was held on 30 September 2012, on "Satu Mangrove Sejuta Harapan (One Mangrove one Million Hopes)", it was held  in collaboration with the Directorate General of Marine Coastal and Small Islands and the Pekalongan City. Third, competition programs aimed to inventory the creativity of the participants at the national level for writing contest, ecobag designs, and recycling materials designs. Fourth, was the national seminar and expo,as the culminating of event.

The theme of the  National Seminar was " Realitas Peranan Pemerintah dan Akademisi dalam Memastikan Kelangsungan Sumberdaya dan Kelestarian Pesisir (The Reality and the Role of Government in Ensuring the Continuity of Academic Resources and Coastal Sustainability)". The seminar invited two speakers, namely Dr. Sudirman Saad, M. Hum (Director of Marine Coastal and Small Islands) and Dr. Ir. Soerya Adi Wibowo, M.Sc. (Lecturer in Human Ecology FEMA IPB), and moderator for the seminar was Prabu Revolusi (Metro TV Presenter). In this activity IPB Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Herry Suhardiyanto, M.Sc stated that "Events like this are very important for inspiring us, the spirit of coastal communities to achieve a better life in the future." INDEX 2012 event was also attended by Sharif C. Sutardjo, Minister of Marine and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia.

"Faculty of Human Ecology is the Faculty under IPB that is mandated develop the social sciences, nutritional and families sciences which is associated within the context of agriculture, livestock, forestry, coastal and marine fisheries. FEMA IPB has a great commitment for the development of coastal communities. Coastal communities is very strategic for us as it is our fortress for our nation. Therefore, it will be our concern to preserve and maintain their quality of life, "said the Dean of FEMA, Dr. Arif Satria. (Wied).
