In 2012, GPA of IPB Student Goes Up
From 2008 to 2012, the average grade point (GPA) of the students at the Common Preparation Level (TPB), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) has increased. However, in particular this year the increase is quite sharp. This was conveyed by Rector of IPB, Prof.Dr.Ir. Herry Suhardiyanto, M.Sc in the Wednesday Meeting of the whole academic members at Graha Widya Wisuda, Darmaga Campus of IPB, (18/7).
"From 2008-2011, the GPA was usually only in the range of 2.71-2.79, but this year there is a quite drastic increase, reaching 2.95. This means that the high school students admitted into IPB in 2011 was really outstanding students," said Rector. In addition, according to him, the applicants deciding to enrol at IPB as the first choice through the Invitation of National Selection of State University (SNMPTN) also increased from 9295 (in 2011) to 9910 (year 2012). This also occurred in the written exam of SNMPTN, from 15 111 (in 2011) to 17 964 (2012). "What is even more of our pride is the level of competitiveness in the written SNMPTN in 2012 for the IPA group, at which IPB is of the first rangking. In other words, each applicant taking the exam must compete with 20 other participants to get into IPB, "he said.
In the Wednesday Meeting, the regular agenda of IPB every half term, Rector also announced a number of achievements. For example, IPB managed to put itself as a university with the highest number of registration and patents in Indonesia from the Directorate of Intellectual Property Rights, Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, dated 26 April 2012. "As is known, since 2008-2010, the registration and patents acquired by IPB have continued to increase significantly. Onother accomplishment achieved by IPB students is the Mangnut Team, the students of Food Science and Technology Department, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, which managed to be the Second Winner in the international competition of food science and technology ‘Developing Solutions for Developing Countries’, Institute of Food Technology (IFT ), 25-28 June 2012 in Las Vegas, United States. This competition is a vehicle to promote the application of food science and technology and the development of new products and processes that are targeted to improve the life quality of people in developing countries," he said.
Earlier, on 23 April 2012, IPB received an award from Indonesian Record Museum (MURI) as the institution that became the first inventor of Non-rice Rice, or known as Analog Rice. "Research Team of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Bogor Agricultural University, involving several lecturers, researchers and students, have successfully created artificial rice or analog rice made from carbohydrate sources other than rice such as corn, sago, tubers, sorghum and others. This invention is an IPB’s commitment to the continuous support to the national diversification program," he explained.
In addition, IPB team succeeded to become the Second General Winner of 93 participating colleges in PIMNAS XXV (National Science Week). IPB acquired 5 awards equivalent to five golds, 3 equivalent to silvers, and 2 equivalent to bronzes in the category of presentation. The Diploma student choir or D’Voice also received a second level of award in the XXXIII Choir Festival held on 5 to 10 July in Bandung.
Meanwhile one of the achievements by the lecturers, educational staff, and students of IPB in the national selection of achievements in 2012 is that Prof. Dr. Ir. Nastiti Siwi Indrasti, Head of Agricultural Industry Technology Studies Program, Faculty of Agriculture, was elected as the Head of Study Program in the first national ranking.
"We should also be proud that Dr. Dyah Iswantini of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, was selected as the outstanding lecturer in the first ranking nationally, and Br. Rio Aditya, a student of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, was elected as a student with achievement of the national second ranking in 2012. And in this year, four educational staff of IPB became finalists of staff with national achievements. They are Suratni (Faculty of Agricultural Technology) in the category of academic administration, Adha Sari, SP in the category of laboratory infrastructure, Sri Rahayu in the category of Librarians and Dian Hartatiati in the category of archivists," he said.
