Anger Reduces Vitamin C in the Body, equivalent to Five Kg Oranges
In the fasting month, we are required to be able to control our emotions. It turns out that a study result shows that anger drains not only our energy but also reduces the amount of vitamin C in our bodies. "Anger can remove as much as 2500 milligrams of vitamin C or equal to the content in five Kilogram citrus fruits," said Professor of the Department of Community Nutrition, Faculty of Human Ecology, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Prof. Dr. Ir. Ali Khomsan, MS in Coffee Morning Program with the theme "Fasting, Nutrition and Health" on Friday (13/7) in IPB Baranangsiang. Inability to control emotions or anger can also decrease the pumping efficiency of the heart and a second heart attack. Human nutritional need during fasting is equal to that of non-fasting period. Yet at the beginning of fasting, many people lose weight between two to three kilograms because of the decreased index of energy intake.
To keep fit during the fasting month, Prof. Khomsan advises to take some exercise. Preferably, it is in the afternoon. The most appropriate type of exercise is walking because it uses only 420 calories per hour, compared to other too heavy sports like gymnastics, badminton and swimming.
The reserved energy during the fasting month should be sufficient for the next 14 hours. Therefore, Prof. Khomsan, recommends at sahur (eating by the time to begin fasting) consume foods that meet the four -healthy-and-five-perfect formula. "Consumption of liquid should be sufficient as reserve so as not to become dehydrated during the fasting of 14 hours," explains Prof.Khomsan. Conversely, we break the fasting by eating sweet foods such as dates or compote, and continue after the sunset prayer to eat fruit or a light snack after tarawih (night prayers in congregation)
Prof. Khomsan said, dates contain 48.8 percent sugar that can produce 271 kcal of energy. In addition, the high potassium content in dates is very beneficial for the heart and blood vessels. Potassium is also important to consume for people who have a tendency to hypertension. "The pulse becomes more regular and the muscles get contracted, so it can help stabilize blood pressure," said Prof. Khomsan. (Mtd)
