Parents Association and Rektor Meeting
Parents of new incoming students from all over Indonesia came to Darmaga Campus IPB to attend Parents Association Meeting organized by Bogor Agricultural University Parents Association (POM – IPB) some time ago. Rector of IPB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Herry Suhardiyanto, MSc, stated in his remarks that the total number of students who applied for admission to IPB through the SNMPTN (National Selection for State-owned University) Invitation selection system was 15 864 (fifteen thousand eight hundred and sixty four) students. 9 910 (nine thousand nine hundred ten) out of those applicants took IPB as their first choice, while the other 5 954 (five thousand nine hundred fifty four) took IPB as their second choice. The lucky students who were admitted to be new incoming students of IPB were about 2 629 (two thousand six hundred twenty nine) students.
Furter, Rector stated that students who are eligible for the admission to IPB through SNMPTN invitation were really a very very special opportunity them. "Not all of 15 864 (fifteen thousand eight hundred and sixty four) prospective students will be accepted," he said. Rector congratulated to parents of the lucky applicants who were admitted to the University.
Some parents of the new students expressed their happiness, one of whom was Mrs. Nokamah. She said that she was willingly to leave Garut early in the morning to attend to attend Parents Association Meeting. In addition, she conffesed that her son was actually received “Bidik Misi Scholarship” application form. But she decided not to apply for the scholarships, as she afraid that her son won’t be accepted and will miss the rare opportunity. It was really her sincerity expression and her strong desire to send her son to pursue his study at IPB. Despite the fact that IPB won’t reject the opportunity for prospective students from less furtunate families. Instead a variety of scholarships, including “Bidik Misi Scholarships” is administered by IPB to assist those less furtunate students but who have good academic performance, thus, they will have opportunities to pursue their higher education.
Nokamah, another parents of a student from East Java also had similar expression. For her son, who was admitted into the Faculty of Economics and Management of IPB, she was willingly took the 30-hour journey from East Java to Bogor to attend the meeting. Higher appreciation was also presented by parents who came from Kupang, NTT. Their perceptions that IPB has only 1 (one) Faculty, the Faculty of Agriculture, was really untrue. They tried to socialize the correct information on IPB to their colleauges at home, especially as NTT is noted to have good potential for Livestock farming.
The venue of the Parents Association Meeting was divided into two locations: for parents of students who were admitted into seven Faculties, the venue was Graha Widya Graduation (GHH), while Parents of students who were admitted into Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences the venue was the Gymnasium of Darmaga Campus.
