IPB University Signs MoU with Situbondo Regency Government, Offers Collaboration from Scholarships to Innovation Downstreaming
IPB University has opened several forms of collaboration with local governments, ranging from regional scholarships and the Regional Chair Teaching Program to the implementation of innovations.
The offer was conveyed during the “National Discussion: Synergy between Higher Education, Media, and Local Government for Impactful Development” as well as the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between IPB University and the Situbondo Regency Government (Pemkab).
The event was organized by IPB University together with Metropolitan.id and the Situbondo Regency Government (Pemkab) at the Innopreneurship Center Building, IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor, Thursday (10/15).
Director of Cooperation, Communications, and Marketing of IPB University, Dr Alfian Helmi, outlined various forms of collaboration that could be developed, ranging from education programs to the implementation of innovations.
One of them is the Regional Representative Scholarship (BUD). Local governments can collaborate with IPB University to provide opportunities for the best students from their respective regions to pursue higher education, with selection conducted through mechanisms mutually agreed upon while maintaining academic quality.
There is also the Regional Chair Teaching Program. Regional heads can share their experiences, ideas, and development challenges with students.
Together with the Bogor Regency Government, IPB University has also organized the Village Government School, which is now entering its 6th cohort. This program is aimed at improving the capacity of government officials in village governance, development, and data based village planning.
In the field of innovation, IPB University has developed varieties of rice, tomatoes, bananas, and other commodities that have been utilized in several regions. For example, IPB University together with the Bali Provincial Government successfully developed marigold flowers to meet the domestic market, which previously depended on imports.
In livestock, IPB University also has IPB D1 to D4 chicken varieties and premium sheep. The chickens developed by IPB University researchers have relatively fast growth while maintaining the taste characteristics of native chicken. In the marine and fisheries sector, development is directed toward aquaculture, coastal management, and downstreaming.
“Innovation is not enough to stop at the research stage, but needs to be implemented and connected to community needs and market opportunities,” emphasized Dr Helmi.
The Regent of Situbondo, Yusuf Rio Wahyu Prayogo, SSos, MSM, welcomed the offers. Rio hopes that the collaboration between the Situbondo Regency Government and IPB University can be realized through concrete, measurable programs that provide a direct impact on community welfare.
“The local government plays a role in identifying needs, facilitating program implementation, and connecting stakeholders. Meanwhile, higher education institutions can provide support through research, technology implementation, capacity development, and field assistance,” he said.
Thus, the collaboration will not only produce documents or recommendations, but also encourage real changes for farmers and communities. Success, he said, must be reflected in increased community income, expanded employment opportunities, strengthened local economies, and reduced poverty rates. (dh)(IAAS/AS)
