IPB University received a donation of a historic archive consisting of the Ex Libris S Somadikarta collection, which belonged to senior academic and leading Indonesian scientist Prof Soekarja Somadikarta, also known as the Father of Indonesian Ornithology. The handover of the archives took place on Wednesday (8/19) at Prof Soma’s residence.

Prof Soma personally handed over the archives to Dr Adisti Permatasari Putri Hartoyo, Assistant for Digital Archives and Museum Management at the Institute for Information Management and Digital Transformation (LMITD) at IPB University. The ceremony began with the physical handover of the archival collection, followed by the signing of the Archive Handover Minutes (BAST) by both parties.

The materials handed over include personal archival records documenting Prof Soma’s career, as well as historical archives related to the development of IPB University. At Prof Soma’s request, this entire collection of archives has been named the Ex Libris S Somadikarta Collection. This donation was made to enrich the holdings of the IPB University Archives while preserving the important historical record of the university’s journey for future generations.

“Prof Soma’s archival collection holds immense historical value. In addition to documenting his scholarly work, the historical archives that were donated play a vital role in piecing together the historical mosaic of IPB University’s founding and growth as a leading institution of higher education,” said Dr Adisti.

As part of this initiative, IPB University, through the Digital Archives and Museum Management Division of LMITD, is committed to managing, preserving, and digitizing all received archives. This step ensures that the archival collection is well maintained, useful, and accessible for research, education, and the preservation of the collective historical memory of the IPB University academic community.
