Syaapii Milkshake, A Fresh Beverage Innovation by IPB University Students Featuring Natural Fruit Jelly Toppings
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that West Java and Central Java are the main dairy hubs in Indonesia. However, milk consumption figures in these two regions still need to be increased. This situation highlights an imbalance between milk availability and public consumption levels.
Addressing this issue, a group of IPB University students participating in the Student Entrepreneurship Programme (PMW) have introduced a fresh milk innovation under the Syaapii brand. The flagship product launched by this brand is the Milkshake.
Syaapii’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Mathematics student, Muhammad Rakha Najwan Fadilah, explained that the Milkshake is a product made from local cow’s milk combined with fruit. This drink serves as a solution to boost interest in milk consumption through a product that is more appealing, nutritious, and easily accepted by children and students.
“This product is made fresh with a variety of flavours that are more appealing than plain milk, making it a nutritious alternative for children and students. As well as tasting great, Milkshake also helps meet nutritional needs such as protein, calcium, vitamins, and fibre,” said Rakha.
Rakha revealed that the results of an internal market survey of 50 respondents showed that 66 per cent expressed strong interest in a milkshake combined with fruit as a nutritional supplement. This reinforces the Syaapii team’s optimism in targeting a market segment across all age groups that prioritises nutrition.
Currently, Syaapii’s milkshake focuses on a strawberry flavour variant, topped with fruit jelly to add texture. The product is packaged in 250 ml bottles and priced affordably for students at Rp10.000 per bottle.
“We use raw ingredients with absolutely no artificial flavourings. For the fruit, we make our own jam using ordinary granulated sugar, not artificial sweeteners,” explained Rakha.
Syaapii’s success in developing fresh dairy products from local farmers is inseparable from the support of PMW. The programme provides students with intensive training ranging from the basics of entrepreneurship and branding to legal compliance through the Entrepreneur Camp.
“PMW has become a platform for me and my friends to truly experience what good sales are like and to hone the courage to step out of our comfort zones,” said Syaapii’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Puan Siti, who is also a student of Islamic Economics at IPB University.
This entrepreneurial team is also supported by three other students. They are Suryani, a Computer Science student serving as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), Danisha Gaida VM, an Aquatic Products Technology student serving as Chief Technology Officer (CTO), and Wapiq, a Mathematics student serving as Chief Operating Officer (COO).
