IPB University Signs MoU with PT Perikanan Indonesia, Focusing on Strengthening the Fisheries Sector
IPB University has established a strategic partnership with PT Perikanan Indonesia (the General Company of Indonesian Fishing) through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) covering the fields of education, research, and community service.
The signing was conducted by the Rector of IPB University, Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet, and the President Director of the General Company of Indonesian Fishing, Titik Mustika Sari. The MoU was signed at the Science Techno Park (STP) of IPB University, Taman Kencana Campus, Bogor City (4/7).
The CEO of PT Perikanan Indonesia, Titik Mustika Sari, stated that this collaboration marks the first step toward strengthening the national fisheries sector through scientific support and the implementation of practical fieldwork. According to her, this collaboration is crucial for fulfilling the state’s mandate while enhancing the value added of Indonesia’s fisheries sector.
She added that Indonesia has great potential in the maritime sector, with approximately two-thirds of its territory consisting of water. However, challenges remain, including the optimization of the role of state-owned enterprises (BUMN) in the fisheries sector, which is considered to have not been fully utilized.
“This collaboration is expected to benefit the Indonesian people by strengthening the blue economy and increasing the value added of the fisheries sector,” he said.
Meanwhile, Rector Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet welcomed the collaboration as a recognition of IPB University’s expertise in the agromaritime field. He emphasized IPB University’s commitment to supporting various strategic programs in the fisheries sector, including downstream processing and the strengthening of human resources through science based education.
For the Rector, this collaboration is not only focused on short-term results but also emphasizes sustainability. He likened this collaboration to a cultivation process that requires time, maintaining ecosystem quality, and a shared commitment to create a broad impact.
“Sustainable cooperation requires a process and trust. The impact is expected to be felt not only by IPB but also by the broader community,” said Alim.
Both parties agreed to follow up on the MoU with concrete programs to support the development of a sustainable national fisheries sector. (dh) (IAAS/FHD)
