Working Visit to Malaysia, IPB University Strengthens International Agromaritime Collaboration

A delegation from IPB University conducted a working visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as part of efforts to strengthen international cooperation in the fields of agriculture and agromaritime affairs. The visit, led directly by the Rector of IPB University, took place over three days, from Sunday (1/11) to Tuesday (1/13).

The presence of the IPB University delegation in Malaysia was a follow up to an official invitation from Syamille Agro Farm Sdn Bhd, an agribusiness company in Malaysia. The visit was carried out to explore the potential for strategic collaboration between academia and the agricultural industry sector.

Rector Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet emphasized that cross country cooperation constitutes an important part of IPB University’s internationalization strategy. Existing collaborations also serve as a tangible contribution of higher education institutions in addressing challenges related to food security and sustainable agricultural development.

“This working visit is expected to result in mutual understanding and concrete follow up plans that provide benefits for both parties, while also expanding IPB University’s role on the global stage,” said Dr Alim.

The main areas of cooperation include the development of agricultural research, technology transfer, sustainable agricultural practices, strengthening human resource capacity, as well as the development of agromaritime based social entrepreneurship.

During the visit to Malaysia, the IPB University delegation participated in various agendas. The team conducted site visits, attended presentations on organizational profiles and agricultural development projects, and engaged in intensive discussions regarding opportunities for medium and long term collaboration.

These activities are expected to serve as a foundation for strengthening IPB University’s international networks, particularly in supporting innovation, downstreaming of research outputs, and the implementation of agricultural technologies at the Southeast Asian regional level.

In the working visit, the Rector was accompanied by senior leaders and strategic managers of IPB University.
