The Professor at the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, IPB University, received the ADPI Global Award (AGA) 2025 The Global Higher Education, in the category of Most Popular Professor: Outstanding Professor in Community Engagement. The award was presented at Universiti Putra Malaysia (11/9).

Prof Agik Suprayogi is a researcher in the fields of cardiovascular physiology, respiration, environment, and nutrition in wild animals. He is also known as the figure behind Katulac®, an innovation in depolarized katuk leaves (Sauropus androgynus) that functions as a feed additive to trigger milk production.

“I spent about 12 years developing Katulac®, which involved many dynamics and challenges. This innovation then encouraged me to formulate the concept of ‘Hipermadani’ or Downstreaming of Higher Education Innovation for the Community and Farmers,” said the researcher, who completed his master’s and doctoral degrees at Georg-August University, Goettingen, Germany.

This model, he explained, directs university innovations to immediately reach the community/users so that they have a high socio-economic impact. Of course, this is done in collaboration with industry, local government, the community (farmers and ranchers), including professional communities such as the Indonesian Association of Lecturers for Community Service (ADPI).

“Through Hipermadani, Katulac® innovation has been accepted and has become a necessity for dairy farmers in various regions. Our survey results at dairy farms in Pujon and Ngantang subdistricts, Malang Regency, show satisfaction and increased productivity among dairy cows,” he said.

“What I have achieved is not possible without the support of IPB. I feel that the academic atmosphere at IPB is excellent and conducive. This environment has greatly facilitated my research and helped guide the acceptance of Katulac® and Hipermadani innovations internationally, such as at AGA 2025,” continued Prof Agik.

For him, this award is not just a personal achievement, but also for the IPB University community, especially young lecturers. He hopes this award can inspire everyone to continue working in the field of science that ultimately benefits society.
