IPB University Innovations Present to Dairy Farmers of SAE Pujon Cooperative Malang
IPB University lecturers and students introduced the “Katulac” innovation to dairy farmers who are members of Sinau Andandani Ekonomi (SAE) Pujon Cooperative in Malang Regency, East Java.
Katulac is an innovation based on local Indonesian natural resources derived from depolarized katuk leaves. This innovation is expected to improve the milk production of livestock, including dairy cows.
In the “Socialization of IPB Innovations and Workshop on Improving Productivity and Health of Dairy Cows”, the head of the lecturer team, Prof Agik Suprayogi, said that this activity aims to socialize IPB innovations, namely Katulac as well as the trial of these innovations conducted by students.
“As a trigger for milk production, this product must be fully understood as an additional feed given in the right amount under the right conditions for dairy cows. Therefore, farmers must be taught how to use Katulac,” said Prof Agik during the socialization held at the SAE Cooperative Hall, some time ago.
The socialization was attended by the Chairman of SAE Cooperative, management and 56 heads of breeder groups, IPB University lecturers as presenters and students. The lecturers involved were Dr Afton Atabani, Dr drh Ronald Tarigan, and Dr drh Deny Setyo Wibowo.
Chairman of SAE Cooperative, H Mohammad Niam Soffi, expressed his gratitude for the presence of IPB University in order to realize Katulac product innovation.
He said, “This product has been used by several members in Ngabab Village, Pujon based on information from the Village Head, Amin Afandi, SPd, SAP. It is known that this product is good and can increase cow’s milk production.”
“Our members certainly hope that this innovation can soon be presented to all farmers so that cow’s milk production in SAE Cooperative can be increased,” said Niam further.
At this event, Katulac products and the book “Benefits of Katuk Leaves” were also symbolically handed over from Prof Agik to the Chairman of the SAE Cooperative.
On the same occasion, Katulac trials were conducted on cattle farmers by three students of the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedicine (SKHB) IPB University. One of the students who is also a prospective veterinarian, Asri Rizkia Kurniawan, SKH, said that Katulac is very necessary for farmers.
“The farmers hope that this innovation can be immediately present in SAE Cooperative because until now there has been no similar product that can increase their cow’s milk production,” said Asri.
Through this activity, Prof Agik and the team expect the work of IPB University as a leading university in Indonesia, to always consistently oversee the downstreaming of innovations to the community. “Katulac as an innovation of IPB University has been present in SAE Cooperative member farmers, hopefully this innovation will benefit them,” he said.
