Coastal Fishing Port (PPP) Bajomulyo collaborates with IPB University Innovation Real Thematic Work Lecture Students (KKNT) in organising Occupational Health and Safety (K3) training for fishermen. This activity is an advanced K3 training activity from PPP Bajomulyo. Not only collaborating with students, PPP Bajomulyo also collaborates with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) as an institution that focuses on labour problems around the world.

This activity was held at PPP Bajomulyo, Juwana, Pati, Central Java. The material conveyed about the potential work accidents that can happen to fishermen. The potential can occur from pre-activity to post-fishing activities. Other materials are related to how to overcome or minimise the potential for work accidents in fishermen and safety equipment that must be on fishing boats.

The KKNT Innovation Team from IPB University on that occasion gave an educational video about K3 and the importance of fishermen applying the basics of K3. “K3 can already be applied on large ships above 100 gross tonnage (GT) from abroad with a minimum use of personal protective equipment (APD),” said Aldi as an IPB University student who provided the material.

He added, “Currently in Indonesia there is still very little use of PPE as a tool to protect yourself from work accidents. Therefore, facilities and awareness are needed by all parties so that the fishing operation can run well and smoothly.”

The ILO representative explained how to utilise the limited space on the fishing boat so that the trip needs are met without reducing the working space on board. PPP Bajomulyo also launched cadres who care about K3 with the hope as an example in the field in the implementation of K3 fishermen.

“We submit documentation photos and after-movie videos as the output of this activity to PPP Bajomulyo. We also submitted a map of the fishing area in the Fisheries Management Area (WPP) 718 Sea Arafura as an expression of gratitude for inviting the KKNT IPB University team to collaborate in the implementation of this activity,” Aldi concluded.
