The Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (BEM FPIK) IPB University in collaboration with the youth of Ciampea Udik village successfully built a greenhouse (23/7). This activity was carried out in the framework of the implementation of the Student Organisation Capacity Strengthening Program (PPK Ormawa).

This collaboration is also an effort to improve food security and empower rural communities. The greenhouse will be used for sustainable tilapia cultivation.

This programme is part of community service initiated by FPIK IPB University students with the aim of providing sustainable and environmentally friendly fisheries solutions. The greenhouses built will be used for tilapia cultivation that can provide results throughout the year, without depending on the season.

In addition to the construction of the greenhouse, the programme also includes training on how to make tarpaulin ponds involving the village youth. These tarpaulin ponds are expected to be a practical and economical alternative solution for tilapia farming.

The process of building greenhouses and tarpaulin ponds involves the active participation of Ciampea Udik Village youth who participate in every stage of the work, from land preparation, frame installation, to the installation of water pipes for tilapia cultivation.

Leader of PPK Ormawa BEM FPIK IPB University, Faishal Yusuf, revealed that this programme not only aims to increase fisheries productivity, but also to empower village youth through training and mentoring.

“We hope that with these greenhouses and tarpaulin ponds, village youth can develop more modern and efficient fish farming skills, so as to improve their welfare,” he said.

The greenhouses and tarpaulin ponds are expected to be a model for other villages in developing more innovative and adaptive fisheries to climate change. In addition, the results of tilapia farming in greenhouses and tarpaulin ponds are also expected to increase local food availability and provide additional income for villagers.

“With the spirit of collaboration and empowerment, IPB University students together with Ciampea Udik village youth have shown that through innovation and cooperation, various challenges in the fisheries sector can be overcome and bring positive changes to village communities,” said Faishal.
