Prof Sandra Arifin Aziz: Indonesian Have Trusted Spices for Herbal Medicine Ever Since the History of Indonesia was Drafted


Prof. Sandra Arifin Aziz, Professor of IPB University in the field of Plant Ecophysiology, said that Indonesian people have probably used spices as herbs and cosmetics ever since 400 B.C. "Indonesian people have known spices as their traditional herbs and beauty purposes ever since the ancient times," said Prof Sandra, an IPB University lecturer from the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture.

This spice expert from IPB University also emphasized that Indonesian people have already known and profoundly used spices for medicine and cosmetics purposes which generated from their ancestors from generations to comes. Prof Sandra further explained that these spices have been known to the Indonesian people for a long period of time. “They know that spices are not solely for the sake of spices. The Spices have been known as cosmetic ingredients to traditional medicines," said Prof Sandra  Arifin Aziz, Professor of Plant Ecophysiology, Faculty of Agriculture, IPB University.

Various spices such as cloves, turmeric, ginger, curcuma, Dutch teak leaves were have enormous lucrative essentials that every human actually need, including fat laxative, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, making them strategically suitable as herbal ingredients.

As cosmetic ingredients, various spices such as turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, cloves and cardamom are scientifically proven to be efficacious as a skin smoothing, skin lightening, as well as a mixture of cosmetic fragrances. (dh)
