Want to be the king of livestock? Let’s study at Animal Production Technology Study Program in IPB University
Livestock sector has an important role to fulfill the animal protein needs in Indonesia. Therefore a competent human resources are needed to contribute at technology to produce healthy and quality livestock products. As an effort to create an excellent quality human resources in the field of livestock, IPB University has Animal Production Technology study program (TPT)
Prof Dr Irma Isnafia Arief, vice dean of Faculty of Animal Science said that at 1963, IPB University established the faculty of animal science with Animal Production Science study program. This study program’s name has changed into Animal Production Technology now.
“We keep trying to fulfill the needs of society by emphasizing the ability to apply, develop, and create an innovation to our students,” she said.
Until now, the TPT study program has received A accreditation by the National Accreditation by the National Accreditation Board for College (BAN-PT) in 2018 and is internationally certified by the Asean University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) in 2013.
“TPT graduates are directed to have main competencies to compete in the global world. The main competencies possessed by graduates are the ability to think analytically, entrepreneurship, technology, and communicates effectively,” Prof Irma continued.
Prof Irma admitted that teaching and learning activities in TPT study program are supported by qualified domestic and foreign university graduate educators. Currently there are at least 36 lectures with a composition of eight professors, 21 doctors, and 7 master’s degrees who are continuing their doctoral studies.
Furthermore, Prof. Irma explained that learning environment is also equipped with various facilities such as comfortable lecture rooms, modern laboratories, slaughterhouses, carcass evaluation unit, analysis molecular unit, hotspot area, libraries, and commercial livestock unit as the training area for students.
Beside of that, TPT study program also establish academic collaboration in the form of student exchange with colleges in Taiwan, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, and other countries. Other than that, as a form of increasing the chance of studying at college, there are a lot of scholarships.
“Many scholarships intended for students who have academic achievements or who are economically disadvantaged,“ she concluded.
She mentioned, for a students that wanted a scholarship, they can look for the information at the Directorate of Student Affairs and Career Development of IPB University. Many scholarships sponsor offer any kind of scholarships.
“In the IPTP department, there are already five lecturers who promote the Masters Education scholarship to Doctorate for Undergraduate (PMDSU). Currently, five more lecturers are being proposed so that there will be ten lecturers to promote PMDSU, " Prof. Irma explained.
Armed with the mastery of the principles of animal science, professional skills and managerial skills make TPT graduates able to work in various fields. Whether in government, private institutions, educators or researchers, as well as becoming entrepreneurs in the livestock product industry. (SWP/RA)
