Dosen Mengabdi IPB University Teach Ergonomics Implementation in Small Industry

Kampung Batik Cibuluh is a small industrial area located on Jalan Neglasari, Cibuluh, North Bogor District, Bogor City, West Java. This thematic area was formed by the participation and support of community leaders, the youth of Cibuluh village, the Bogor City government, as well as the National Zakat Agency (Baznas) and IPB University. The designation of Cibuluh as a Batik Village aims to create opportunities and help the residents' economy by raising the potential of existing areas, one of which is batik which initially focused on empowering mothers as a form of support for gender equality in Indonesia.

For introduce ergonomic principles for batik craftsmen, which number more than 40 craftsmen, the Lecturer Serving the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) program, IPB University held training for batik craftsmen, (10/9). Ir Purana Indrawan, MP, a lecturer at IPB University from the Vocational School Industrial Management Study Program, was a resource person in this activity.

"The aim of this training is that craftsmen can apply simple ergonomic principles in their workplaces, so that they can optimize the performance of craftsmen in conditions that are Efficient, Safe, Healthy, Comfortable and Effective (EASNE)," he said.

Ir Purana explains about ergonomic aspects related to sensing and information displays, workplaces that are suitable for humans (anthropometry) and environmental conditions that affect human activities. According to him, ergonomics studies consist of six aspects of work, namely Anthropometry, Physiology, Biomechanics, Psychology, Sensory Display, and the physical environment, but due to time constraints only three aspects were discussed.

In addition to ergonomics, there are several other studies that connect humans to their work systems, namely working procedures techniques, which need to be considered by every industry, whether small, medium or large. These studies include work arrangements (work maps and movement studies) and work measurements to obtain standard or standard time.

"On another occasion, we will provide training on the study to small industries including Kampung Batik Cibuluh. The hope is that even though the classification includes small industries, they are ready to apply the principles of good working procedures, so that the craftsmen can work with EASNE (effective, safe, healthy, comfortable and efficient).
