In order to prepare itself for the national level of outstanding students event in 2019, the Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) prepared its two best students. This two students will be selected from the current six best students who come from undergraduate program and vocational school with three student representatives for each. Determination of the six best students was held on the Night of the Awarding of Major Outstanding Students of the Bogor Agricultural University on Wednesday (12/12) at the Andi Hakim Nasution Auditorium, Dramaga Campus of IPB.

The selection of the best and outstanding students of IPB was based on curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular achievements that have been obtained by the students. On the other hand, additional soft skill will become an added value that can be used in the selection of outstanding students. Some of the soft skills include: writing, entrepreneurship skills, and abilities in the arts. One of the main outstanding students of IPB succeeded in publishing 16 short stories. In addition, there are also those who already have businesses that have developed in 15 cities, those who have already explored 15 countries, and those who have become musicians.

Rector of IPB, Dr. Arif Satria said that academic achievement must absolutely be owned by students and cannot be negotiated. He likened, academic achievement is like a passport that must be held by someone who wants to go abroad. “But to go abroad, you need a visa, savings, and other needs. And students are like that too. They need additional soft skills that can reflect their personality and can be useful in the future,” said the Rector of IPB.

The Chancellor of IPB also emphasized that the contest of outstanding students is a place to compete. Despite being a competition, students are expected to be friends with each other. The Chancellor also stated that through the competition the strong friendships and networks will be established. Not only networking, but there are other added values that can be learned from the competition.

To students who had not been selected as the main outstanding students, the Rector advised not to despair and not to stop learning. He also hoped that the finalists of outstanding students would take the lesson, because successful people usually continue to take lessons from the events that occur around them.

This year there are six students who will be mentored and prepared by IPB to participate in the contest of national outstanding students in 2019. They are Baiq Nabila (Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences), Mahtuf Ikhsan (Faculty of Forestry), Ardella Maharani (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences), Ardian Pribadi (Vocational School), Kresna Yudha Utama (Vocational School), and Safhira Alfarisi (Vocational School). Among them, one student will be assigned to continue to the national level. In the last fifteen years, IPB managed to get on stage ten times, namely winning first place five times, winning second place three times, and winning third place two times. (RA/ris/ZSP)
