Hundreds of students from various universities enthusiastically attended a national seminar held by the Mathematics Student Association of Bogor Agricultural University (Gumatika of IPB) at the Toyib Hadiwijaya Auditorium, Faculty of Agriculture, IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor (30/9). Every year, Gumatika always holds a national seminar which is a series of the 7th IPB Mathematics Challenge (IMC).

The seminar which carried the theme "The Existence of Data Mining for Business" was the 7th IMC's final event after "Actuarial Training" which was also successfully held on the previous day.

"The committee packs this seminar very well, starting from the presentation of the theory, then continued by sharing insights and knowledge by speakers who have studied mathematics in various fields," said Porkas M. Siregar as Commercial Expert for International Sales & Distribution of PT Garuda Indonesia during his presentation.

Meanwhile, Sigit Wahyudi as the chairman of Gumatika hoped that the participants were able to gain new knowledge, so that their insight into mathematics would be broader and its application could also support their careers in the future.

In addition to featuring five speakers who are experts in the field of operations research and data mining, IMC also held a campus job fair in collaboration with the Top Career Line Jobs Expo. "Mathematics has a very broad job opportunity, especially in this 4.0 industrial revolution era where all data are digital. Therefore, a stand is provided to facilitate all attendees in finding out directly on how mathematics is applied in the world of work," said Sigit.

Not only mathematics students who participated in this seminar, many other department's students were also interested because it was very suitable with the current era and needs. Participants were also enthusiastic during the question and answer session. "Hopefully, the next year's event does not disappear and can be better than this year's," concluded Sigit. (Ama/ZSP/Zul)
