IPB Talks Series with Experts from UK, Germany and USA


Directorate of International Programme, Centre for Transdisciplinary Science and Sustainability Sciences and other several faculties and study programmes in Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) organized IPB Talks Series on Complexity and Sustainability Sciences with top tier experts as invited speakers from IPB and several universities from UK, Germany and USA. Throughout August 2018, four IPB Talks have been successfully held. It was begun with The 12th IPB Talks “Sustainability Action Research” on August 2nd, 2018, with invited speakers Dr. Jacob Phelps (Lancaster Environmental Centre, Lancaster University, UK) entitled “Sustainability through liability: Characterizing and litigating environmental harm” and Prof. Bambang Hero Saharjo (Department of Silviculture, Faculty of Forestry, IPB) entitled “Scientific evidence to support litigation of land and forest fire”, moderated by Dr. Neviaty P. Zamani (Department of Marine Science and Technology, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, IPB). Afterwards, The 13th IPB Talks “Green Campus” on August 18th, 2018, with invited speakers Prof. Moncef Krarti (Professor at Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering, University of Colorado Boulder, USA) entitled “Planning for zero-emission campus” and Dr. Aceng Hidayat (Associate Professor at Department of Resources and Environmental Economics, Faculty of Economics and Management, IPB) entitled “Towards IPB Green Campus”, moderated by Dr. Ulfah Juniati Siregar (Associate Professor at Department of Silviculture, Faculty of Forestry, IPB) was conducted. Prior to Indonesian 73rd Independence Day, Special Independence Day IPB Talks “Indonesian Diaspora Series” on August 15th, 2018, with invited speakers Dr. Bagus Putra Muljadi (Assistant Professor at Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Nottingham University, UK) entitled “Chemical and Environmental Engineering” and Dr.Hutomo S. Wasisto (Head of Junior Research Group, Opto Sense (Optochemical Integrated Nanosystems for Sensing) Laboratory for Emerging Nanometrology (LENA) and Institute of Semiconductor Technology, Germany) entitled “Nanotechnology”, moderated by Dr-Ing. Dase Hunaefi S.T.P. M.Food.ST.(Department of Food Science and Technology, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, IPB) was run to celebrate the event. Lastly, August chain of IPBTalks was wrapped up with The 14th IPB Talks “Human Modified Landscape” on August 30th, 2018, with invited speaker Prof. Mark Williams (Professor at Palaeobiology, Leicester University, UK) entitled “Human reconfiguration of the biosphere: a sustainable or unsustainable pattern in the Anthropcene?”, moderated by Prof.Dr. Ir. Hadi Susilo Arifin, MS (Professor at Landscape Architecture, Faculty of Agriculture, IPB). The events were attended by both local and foreign students, lecturers and researchers. The IPB Talks series are expected to not only broaden the attendants’ knowledge but also strengthen and widen the network between parties involved.
