IPB Student Creates Marine Drones to Keep the Sea from Foreign Ships
The rise of illegal fishing by foreign vessels shows that the sovereignty of Indonesia's marine areas is highly vulnerable. This can increase tensions in the Asia-Pacific region, which is also very potential to cause conflicts that threaten Indonesia's sovereignty.
Starting from the problem, three Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) students designed an autonomous vessel that can keep the sovereignty of Indonesia's sea territory from the threat of entry of foreign ships known as Swarm-Ship. They are Chaidar Aji Nugroho, Ahya Mudah Siti Rohmawati and Ahmad Vidura, students of the Department of Marine Science and Technology (FPIK), under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Ir. Indra Jaya, MSc.
Chaidar Aji Nugroho explained that Swarm-Ship is a ship equipped with swarm intelligence system. With this system it’s expected that the ship can be integrated with each other and do some formation for ambush, assault, defense.
"Our Swarm-Ship ship is different from other surveillance boats. The surveillance system without the use of crew. It reduce the risk of casualties, "explained Chaidar.
At Swarm Ship, the ship will be integrated with radar. Radar will send coordinate information or direction so that the ship can go towards the enemy with a particular formation.
Currently, Chaidar and his team have completed the assembly of three Swarm Ship vessels consisting of one instructor vessel and two support vessels. This ship is each measuring 70 x 30 x 25 cm. Ahmad explained that the instructor's vessel has a role in regulating and controlling support vessels. Another uniqueness with this instructor ship is that is has a role to be able to arrange the formation step ambush on foreign ships.
To be able to know whether the ship that has been assembled to function or not it requires testing first. Ahmad Vidura explained that the ship that has been assembled has been successfully tested on land and will be continued in Lake Situ Gede.
"We hope in the future we want to make the work of Ship Swarm-Ship can be patented. We hope that this work can pass the IPB representation until the Scientific Week of Students or Pimnas 2018, and become one of the solutions for the country, especially in the field of defense in facing the rampant Illegal Fishing, "Ahya added as well closed the interview.(jhn)
