IPB Students Keep Preparing to Face Disruption Era

To prepare its student for entering the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) collaborated with PT. Telkomsel to enhance students’ skill. Directorate Of Student Affairs And Career Development of IPB and PT. Telkomsel held IndonesiaNEXT and IPB Lead (Leadership and Entrepreneur Development) 2018 at Graha Widya Wisuda, IPB Dramaga Campus (15/5). In this opportunity, students got a chance to level up their competency by attending the international standard certification for digital and interpersonal skill training.

Vice Rector for Education And Student Affairs, Dr. Ir. Drajat Martianto, M.Sc stated that the program would enhance the competency, soft-skill, and literacy of young generation, especially IPB students. The purpose of that is to prepare students all over Indonesia to face disruption era and Industrial Revolution 4.0.

“We are facing a disruption phenomenon, a situation which the movement of education and work competitiveness is no longer linear. The changes are very fast and fundamental. This requires students to equip themselves with competency and soft-skill to face a complex working world,” he said.

In his opinion, disruption era produced a new model with more innovative and disruptive strategy. The scope of changes was wide, starting from business, banking, social, to education. Without a doubt, the disruption would push the digitization of education system. Such challenge had to be encountered according to the new work pattern for education world. Skills and competency had to consistency be improved. He also emphasized that IPB responded all changes very fast, which was done by curriculum reorientation so it became adaptive to students, and also able to increase and develop students’ soft-skill in entering Industrial Revolution 4.0 era.

“Industrial Revolution 4.0 is inevitable for every university including IPB. Thus, IPB must actively participate in preparing its students to become competent and skilled human resources,” he added.

Director of Human Capital Management Telkomsel, Irfan A Tachrir, explained that the IndonesiaNEXT program had been going on for three years and would always be improved to give an opportunity to Indonesia’s students to increase their competency, soft skill, and literacy in entering work world by joining international standard certification for digital and interpersonal skill training.

Head of Agency of Industrial Research and Development, Ministry of Industry, Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Ngakan Timur Antara, stated that the use of technology in Industry 4.0 is now interned based and creates numerous new job opportunity. For example; digital data analyzer, and many professions that can operate robotic technology in the production process in the industry. There will be new job opportunities that are more specific, especially ones that need high competency. Because of that, skill transformation to information technology field for Indonesia’s human resources is highly needed. The changes of pattern create new job but also cause the loss of the traditional job. Therefore, this issue really needs to be addressed with a burning spirit.

“There are five main sectors chosen as the focuses of Making Indonesia 4.0, which are food and beverages, textile and fashion, automotive, electronics, and chemicals. Making Indonesia 4.0 will increase Gross Domestic Product (GDP) significantly, and manufacturing contribution can increase job opportunity,” he said.

This event was also filled with public speaking training “Yes I’m The Next”, which taught good communication techniques. This training presented two notable speakers; Former Managing Director Intel For South East Asia, Herry Nugraha, Tcash CCO SVP Mobile Financial ServiceTcash, Danu Wicaksana, and three more speakers from Communication and Public Speaking, Bayu Oktara, Uli Herdinansyah dan Hilbram Dunar.

Present in IndonesiaNEXT 2018 were IPB officials; deans, vice deans, head of departments, head of offices, head of bureaus, directors, and thousands of students from Jakarta, Bogor, Tanggerang, Bekasi (Jabotabek). Their presences made the event even more spectacular. (CN)
