Inauguration and the First National Working Meeting of IPB Alumni Association for Period 2017-2021
The Alumni Association of the Bogor Agricultural University (HA IPB) inaugurated the new Executive Boards for the period of 2017-2021, at IPB campus, Dramaga, Bogor, on 11 February 2018. The inauguration ceremony was coupled with the First National Working Meeting (Rakernas I) which was attended by all members of the Central Board (DPP) of HA IPB in Indonesia. The elected Chairman of IPB HA period 2017-2021, Fathan Kamil, and Secretary General of HA IPB, Walneg S. Jas, inaugurated directly management of HA IPB, the inauguration process was witnessed by Rector of IPB, Dr. Arif Satria.
Fathan Kamil stated that the visions of HA IPB are to realize and develop the creative management of HA, particularly to have leadership thinkers which can be contribute to the success of strategic management and become a strategic partner of IPB transformation for the nation, especially in the agricultural sector.
"Thanks to the former Governing Boards of HA IPB period 2013-2017, who have made outstanding improvements in organizational performance of HA IPB with full commitment and dedication for the progress of HA IPB, the association is diverse group of people that share the history and mission of IPB for its progress," he explained.
He added that IPB has developed and produced more than 150 thousand alumni spread all over Indonesia. The alumni are active in various fields of profession and developed entrepreneurship. "Perseverance and dedication leads to a bright career of the alumni that bring their maximum potential in helping the Indonesian community," he said.
Fathan asserted, that HA IPB will continue to improve the ability and capacity in running its performance. Three focus areas of HA IPB are as follows: 1). To give more attention, accompaniment and advancement of HA IPB, especially young alumni who need mentoring; 2). To increase the dedication to IPB alma mater in an effort to advance IPB to Techno-Socio-Entrepreneurial University 2030 and Green Campus; and 3). To contribute more for the advancement of agriculture and farmers, especially with space capacity and capabilities possessed throughout the archipelago.
IPB Rector stated that the IPB visions is to produce entrepreneurs, leaders, candidates for strong leaders, to oversee agricultural transformation in Indonesia. Now, in the era of democracy and decentralization, when the quality of leadership in the central and regional areas become one of the most urgent needs, IPB has developed a novel selection scheme to select new intakes through the special path, selecting Chairman of Organisasi Intra Sekolah (OSIS Intra School Organization) who are qualified academically to be admitted as student of IPB. This scheme is one of the independent selection to find prospective students who have proven to have leadership. As chairman of OSIS while they are high school, shows they have strong leadership spirit. Sufficient academic ability or high intellectual ability are important factors for future leader. It is the reason why IPB established such novel selection method for chairman of OSIS," he said.

"This is one of IPB's steps in creating a strong and bold leader," said Rector.
Rector added, we also have to produce new successful entrepreneurs. According to him, to thrive in the world of international business today demands an entirely different set of skills than was expected even a decade ago. The most successful leaders have not only mastered technical skills, they've also mastered soft skills. The young employees of today are the future business leaders of tomorrow. "For a sound and comprehensive decision making, leaders should understand that all rational decision making processes requires a great deal of time and a valid sharing or knowledge of information. They should be able to use the best type of leadership decision making style described by current business world. Therefore, if IPB wants to produce a national leader, it should produce national entrepreneurs, "he explained.
The Rector said that IPB desperately needs the support of HA in succeeding and producing outstanding and advanced leaders, because the alumni are already familiar with business world, entrepreneurship world and have been directly involved in developing and developing business world in the society.
Yet, various work programs are formulated in this the First National Working Meeting of HA IPB. Here are some notes taken as the main points in Rakernas, namely the commitment of global development to be the objectives of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as it is very relevant to the vision and mission of HA IPB, and also the future work programs of alumni IPB; national agricultural development still faces major challenges. Self-sufficiency of staple food target (rice, corn, catfish - pajale) have not been achieved. Another challenge in agricultural development is the declining interest of young workforce to work in the agricultural sector is not without consequences, particularly for the future sustainability of this sector (on-farm).
Special guests present in the HA IPB Inauguration and Conggress, among others were, Vice Rector for Education and Student Affairs IPB, Dr. Drajat Martianto; Vice Rector for Resources, Planning and Finance of IPB, Dr. Agus Purwito; Vice Rector for Cooperation and Information System of IPB, Prof. Dr. Dodik Ridho Nurrochmat; and the Director of PT Bogor Life Science and Technology (BLST) IPB, Dr. Meika Syahbana Rusli.
