The Governor of Jambi , Mr. Zumi Zola, Visited IPB to Grace the Graduation Day

Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) again produced and presented  its current 750 graduates in the Open Session for the Graduation Day of Phase I of the Academic Year 2017/2018, on Wednesday, 13 September 2017, at Grha Widya Graduation (GWW), IPB campus, Dramaga, Bogor. At the present commencement, IPB handed over graduate certificates for 13 Doctor degree, 81 graduates of Master of Science degree, 15 Master of Management graduates, 3 Master of Professionals, 13 Graduates of Veterinary, and 622 graduates of Bachelor degree.

The Graduation Procession was officially opened and chaired by Rector of IPB, Prof.Dr. Herry Suhardiyanto. On behalf of the entire academic community of IPB, Rector congratulated the graduates, who successfully completed their education.

Rector stated the recent Open Session of the 54th Anniversary of IPB, was attended by the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo. In his scientific oration he presented his Special Message to IPB that the university plays its strategic role in the development Agricultural sector for the bright future of the Indonesia in manifesting its ideals of its  independence, to realize the prosperity of Indonesia, and strengthen the national agricultural sector.

" On behalf of the Indonesian Government, the president assigned IPB to play three major roles, namely to contribute actively to efforts to strengthen Indonesia's food security and sovereignty; produce innovation in agriculture; and organizing relevant academic programs including developing new courses capable of meeting the challenges of changing world.  In addition, IPB is also assigned to develop the agricultural enterprises consolidation program to achieve high economic scale feasibility and applying agribusiness and agro-industry models comprehensively. Thus, farmers, dairy farmers, and fishermen can enjoy attractive value-added through upstream downstream integration including improving national logistics efficiency in the fields of food, agriculture, and maritime, "said Rector.

In his valedictory speech Rector also reported the research projects of  IPB that were expected to support an increase in IPB's role in mainstream agriculture, is (1) LAPAN IPB Satelite which was launched in June last year in India; (2) Rice varieties IPB 3S the high yields under drought stress species for higher productivity; (3) Saturated Water Cultivation Methods to improve national soybean production; (4) Transporter FFB Fastrex to be the conveyance of oil palm fresh fruit bunches; (5) Sekolah Peternakan Rakyat (SPR - The People's School of Animal Husbandry) to provide extension program for farmers; (6) Sea Farming to increase aquaculture production of shallow marine waters by floating net and net cages.

In its 54th Anniversary this, explained Rector, IPB has recorded a number of boasted achievements. Beginning in 2017, the international rating agency QS announced that IPB is among the 100 best universities in the world version of QS World University Ranking by Subject i.e. Agriculture and Forestry.

On 17 August 2017, IPB was declared as the 3rd rank after UGM and ITB in integrated cluster of State universities of Indonesia (PTN) held by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) RI. Recently, IPB has been awarded as the 1st rank of National Animal Husbandry Award by Kemenristekdikti RI as a tribute to IPB's efforts in developing innovation and commercialization of innovation. Such awards were also granted for ITB,  as 2nd  rank  and UGM, as  3rd rank.

In last ten consecutive years (2008 - 2017), IPB has become the largest contributor for Indonesia's Most Prospective Innovation List. This official publication is published by Business Innovation Center (BIC) Indonesia in cooperation with Kemenristekdikti RI / Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (Indonesian Institute of Sciences) - LIPI. Out of 1,045 (one thousand and forty five) Indonesian innovations, 407 (four hundred seven) of which or 38.9 percent are made by Bogor Agricultural University. Various innovations made by IPB has been successfully processed and developed into the stage of commercialization, either through PT. BLST as a holding company owned by IPB as well as through partnership programs with other companies. Recently PT BLST had been granted the Intellectual Property Enterprise Thropy award from the World Intellectual Property Organization.

"On this special occasion, I would like to express my gratitude for the presence of the Governor of Jambi Province Mr. H. Zumi Zola, alumnus of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology IPB. His attendance had outrun the means, and made us pride of our beloved alma mater and proves that IPB graduates have contributed for the development Indonesia towards global competition, "he said.

Further, Rector expected that the alumni of IPB will continue to improve and develop the existing cooperation for the progress of the alma mater. Up to present graduation the total number IPB alumni has reached 146,150. "To all graduates I hope to will join the IPB Alumni Association immediately, for the stronger and compact under  the spirit of One Heart One IPB," said Rector. (Wied)
