IPB Students Promoted the Importance of Clean Water to Communities Around the Campus

The climate of Indonesia is almost entirely tropical. Straddling the equator, Indonesia has a tropical climate characterized by heavy rainfall, high humidity, high temperature, and low winds. Therefore, water resources are abundantly available, but water consumption is still very limited, especially in areas that have difficult access. One of the effects of unclean water use is illness, such as diarrhoea. The health effects of drinking contaminated water can range from no physical impact to severe illness or even death. In Indonesia, diarrhoea as the cause of 31 per cent of deaths between the ages of 1 month to a year, and 25 per cent of deaths between the ages of one to four years old. Thus is still a major cause of death in Indonesia.
Not only become a problem in Indonesia, clean water crisis has become the spotlight of the world. Most of the developing countries like Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Liberia, Malawi, Nepal and Tanzania are experiencing the same thing.
Inspired by the importance of water for life, has encouraged Himpunan Mahasiswa Agrometeorologi (Himagreto Agrometeorology Student Association) from the Department of Geophysics and Meteorology (GFM) of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Bogor Agricultural University (FMIPA IPB) to organize an activity called Indonesian Climate Student Forum (ICSF) . ICSF is one of the activities of the Gerakan Mahasiswa Turun Desa (Students go to Field Movement) used to be one of the work programs of Himagreto's Social and Environmental Division. It has now become a separate division focusing on teaching about the scientific endeavor and environmental knowledge to students which familiarized under the name Rumah Ceria Iklim (RCI Climatic Home).
The event will be carried out on 23 September 2017 at SDN 02 Cihideung Udik. During which a series of events in the form of the introduction of atmospheric processes i.e. clouds and rain will be presented. Followed by wise debriefing and wisdom in the use of water, as well as planting trees as nature’s public utilities. Moreover, the importance of plants and its planting media will also be introduced.
The responsible person for this event, I Gusti Putu Putra, stated that the event is one of the community services of GFM IPB students for the community around the campus. "We hope this activity will be established regularly. In addition to being a means of hospitality for IPB students engaged in the field of dedication, we hope that children from early childhood will be more sensitive to the environment, especially water resources and its benefits, "he said.
