Department of Statistics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) held a workshop on Big Data Analytics with the theme "Big Data Analytics with Application to Modern Genetics", (14-15 / 12) in IPB International Convention Center (IICC ), Bogor. It was officially opened by Vice Dean for Cooperation and Human Resources (HR), FMIPAIPB, Dr. Hamim.
 
This workshop is one of the Statistics Department’s efforts in improving the quality and quantity of human resources capable of implementing and developing statistics in various fields. This time, the applied field is focused on Modern Genetics. This is in line with the statement of Head of the Department of Statistics, Dr. Anang Kurnia, that statistics is used in many areas, making it necessary to increase the quantity and quality of human resources, especially in IPB, that can implement and develop it. Modern genetics is the selected focus of activity this time.
 
This activity invites a Senior Lecturer of La Trobe University, Australia, Dr. Agus Salim, who has been to pursue biostatistics and bioinformatics for more than a decade. In the first session of the workshop, Agus Salim, who is also an IPB alumni of Statistics, Batch 30 emphasized the importance of statistics in Big Omics Data and its utilization in the field of health. "Development of statistics to handle Big Data Omics is very important in order to answer the challenges of the rapid development of technology and the growing volume of omics data. Through cooperation with experts in the field, statisticians have a chance to play an important role in this field," said Agus Salim.
 
Anang Kurnia, in his speech, also said that the invitation of the resource person from La Trobe University is the first step of cooperation between the Department of Statistics of IPB and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of La Trobe University. "The Department of Statistics has started to improve cooperation with several universities abroad. This activity is the first step in starting a partnership with La Trobe University. "
 
Participants in this activity is limited to 40 people, involving lecturers, students of S2 / S3 (Master and Doctoral), and practitioners. They come from various institutions, namely the University of Sebelas Maret (UNS), University of Indonesia (UI), University of Padjadjaran (Unpad), Bandung Islamic University (Unisba), University Syahkuala (Unsyiah), University of Sriwijaya (Unsri), Institute of Technology 10th November ( ITS), University of Sam Ratulangi (Unsrat), University of Pancasila, BCA Finance, Tupperware, and Department of Statistics of IPB.
