Dozens of journal managers in Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) scope attended Publiweek: “Workshop of Journal Accreditation and Internationalization”, Monday (24/9) at Senate Assembly Room IPB Dramaga Campus. Dr. Eva Anggaini, S.Pi., M.Si., Vice Head of Institute of Research and Community Empowerment, Bogor Agricultural University (LPPM IPB) for Strategic Studies and Scientific Publication when opened this workshop stated,” We brought the journal managers in order to enliven the passion and spirit of publication. This workshop is series of events of #Publiweek IPB in IPB’s 55th Dies Natalis. This workshop has aim to improve the performance of IPB’s journals toward to journal accreditation and internationalization". Journal management, according to Dr. Eva, is a very dedicated work, but there are many complaints started from the lack of attention, how to improve publication, up to when journal is only published abroad. “This event open information insight about the management of journal accreditation and the management of journal internationalization. Journal that is indexed by Scopus or web of science is an achievement indicator of university".
Prof. Dr. Sadjuga, M.Sc., Director of Intellectual Property Management, Directorate General of Research and Development, Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristedikti) mentioned, reason of the importance of increasing international journal is because he thinks intellectual property resource becomes the key of economy security for a developed country, as the cycle of world economy is dominated by intangible assets (70 percent of world economy is dominated by movable non-physical property assets). The most dominant intangible asset (non-physical movable property) is intellectual property assets. Intellectual property has dominated the asset proportion. Furthermore, Dr. Sadjuga mentioned the position of Indonesia’s scientific journal internationally.” In August 2017 for the first time after 54 years since 1963, Indonesia with total journal of 19,335 has surpassed Thailand with its 11,808 journals (per 22 September 2018). Indonesia has also outperformed Singapore with its total journals (15,538),” said Dr. Sadjuga.
After 66 years since 1952, Indonesia surpassed Singapore on April 6th, 2018. Indonesia became the second in ASEAN. After that he conveyed the trend of documents which can be cited is increased, although the one which cannot be cited is also increased. He said publication in accredited national journal is way more difficult than publishing in phony international journal. According to him, improving the researches’ quantity and quality also the researches’ output is the key to improve the quantity and the quality of Indonesia’s scientific publication. “For that, the research climate is improved by new policy. Journal managers has very important role in maintaining the momentum of growing quantity and quality of scientific journal. The more international journal from Indonesia, the more respectful Indonesia in world’s scientific community. Scientific journal managers are heroes in providing publication space for academic community which currently is lack of journals to publish their works as the graduation requirement or for researcher/lecturer functional promotion,” he explained.
Other speakers from IPB are Dr. Ir. Iman Rusmana, MSi. And Ir. Julio Adisantoso, M.Kom.
Following this workshop, LPPM IPB will design training program of optimization Open Journal System (OJS) utilization for journal managers in IPB to enhance journal’s capacity and quality so hopefully it can improve IPB reputation.
At the end of this event, Dr. Hawis Madduppa, Head of Publication Division LPPM IPB, conducted mapping and validation of accreditation ranking for all journals in IPB, where the number of accredited journals is 24 journals, which S1 category 3 journals, S2 category 19 journals, S3 category 4 journals, S4 category 3 journals, S5 category 1 journal and about 50 journals has not been indexed in SINTA yet. “Hopefully in the future, will be formed a clinic for IPB journal managers to improve the indexing of journals in IPB,” Dr. Hawis said.
